Possible transfer for the Pilots
Hi Pilots fans-
I read today Garrett Jackson is transferring from USC to be closer to home (Portland)
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51059/garrett-jackson
Could be a very nice a addition.

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
It would be nice to bring in an experienced player, but I cannot find anything that says that he wants to be "closer to home." Also, I'm not sure we need another forward as well as another class of 2014-er. We would be a very top-heavy team.

I can only think of one time when a pac10/12 player transferred to te wcc without having to sit. That was Tara Koleski in soccer, and that had special circumstances.
None are mentioned with Garrett.
So, if he did come, he'd be a class of '15 player.

You are right about that one. I forgot about players having to sit. Regardless, the 2015 class is big too, but I would not mind having him come in under those circumstances.

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
Thanks for the tip, IronLions. It sure would be cool to get a player of his caliber (ranked 3 Stars, 90, and #39 SF in the class of 2010 by ESPN), regardless of how our recruiting classes balance.

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
Thanks for the post IL.
I know the kid; he's tough, and good in the classroom. Garret was offered a scholarship by Rev in 2009.
I too heard he's transferring, but don't know his destination and have not heard UP was in the mix.
I agree with SP11, if he fits, if he contributes, if he makes the TEAM better, then we want him, "regardless of how our recruiting classes balance."
Let's just wait and see, but jeez, it's always fun to speculate.
This picture was taken while he was still at Westview High and had just signed with USC in '09:

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
Even though USC forward Garrett Jackson was a key performer down the stretch for the overmatched basketball team, his departure was not unexpected. USC needs scholarships for next season and Jackson did not figure in next season's plans when players like Eric Wise and Ari Stewart become eligible.
Jackson might end up at the University of Portland or another West Coast Conference school. The next question is whether forwards Evan Smith and Curtis Washington are on the roster next season?
According to Inside USC with Scott Wolf

Link.
Interesting... I have to think he is a good get, but not the class balancing or position we really need. Then again, you have to get the best players available, and he is local...

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
It's really still just a rumor... Where are you reading anything about this his performance in the classroom? I really have no idea why anyone would choose to go to the University of Second Choice... There are so many other better options for your money.

for your money? he would come without a scholarship?
I think the real issue is whether Rev thinks he is worth one of the only two spots left for the next 2 years and balances the classes for the future

I wouldn't even consider it a rumor, it's just some blogger's speculation!onetouchfutbol wrote:It's really still just a rumor... Where are you reading anything about this his performance in the classroom?
Regarding his classroom performance, I earlier wrote,
I know of his classroom performance in high school from talking to coaches in 2009; I know nothing of his scholarly endeavors at USC."I know the kid; he's tough, and good in the classroom. Garret was offered a scholarship by Rev in 2009."

Re: Possible transfer for the Pilots
Even a blogger can start an unsubstantiated rumor . . .and we should accordingly give it proper deference.
No one on this board has yet claimed anything about the likelihood of this young man coming to the Bluff, but those called upon to insure that no one think the impermissible are thanked for their caution, vigilance and insight.
By the way, USC is pretty strong academically. If Jackson remains through the semester, it means at least that he values education, regardless of where he plays.

Nothing final yet, but it would appear Portland native and USC transfer Garrett Jackson is heading to the WCC to play at St. Mary's.

I'm mostly just unhappy that SMC picked up another transfer. At least they didn't take him from a fellow conference member this time.

USC transfer Garrett Jackson has landed at Saint Mary's according to Jackson's mother; so it must be true!
