OK, Micaela won that round, but here's the kicker according to Willamette Week:

University of Portland soccer phenom Micaela Capelle used a push from a message board at Brigham Young University (the Mormon vote!) to defeat PHAME Academy director Stephen Marc Beaudoin.

Problem is, from my standpoint, Micaela now faces Pink Martini singer China Forbes, who managed a 12-vote victory over auteur Gus Van Sant.

The voting starts tomorrow (Wednesday). I'm sure Stoney will give us the link, and I'm sure my school pride will overcome my love for China! pirat

I'm into it, but I am only one student. Also, we do not get the Willamette Weekly, the Portland Mercury, or the Portland Tribune on campus. Just the Oregonian.

The administration pulled the papers not named NYTimes or Oregonian back in 2010.

According to the Beacon's coverage of the 2010 Fireside Chat with Fr. Beauchamp

"Some of the papers were problematic, " Beauchamp said. "But instead of saying, ‘This one's OK, this one's not,' we decided to stop them all."

He added that some material in certain publications contributed to the decision to pull the papers.

"Some things were totally inappropriate for a Catholic university," Beauchamp said. "One front-page story was pure trash. It was not appropriate for any university, so we got rid of all, including The Catholic Sentinel. Not all of them were problematic, but they were not necessary," he said.

The decision was also part of an effort for sustainability and to clean up the Pilot House, where visitors often come, he said.

You can still find some papers like the Sentinel by the 44 bus stop; for the Mercury, one needs to visit Lombard; sadly WW has been harder to find in the traditional paper format near campus.

In the last round, a total of 732 votes were cast. For this current round, there have been 241 votes cast. A theoretical "magic number" for this would seem to be 367, so we need to (by this arbitrary standard) get at LEAST 126 more votes for Micaela...we can do it...we have the technology...we have...er, em...hutzpah.

They're no longer allowing me to vote more than once (total), stating, "Thank you, we have already counted your vote."

As I write this, the score is 200 - 80, Micaela!

Couldn't help but notice that in the Josiah Failing Regional, whose winner will face Micaela if she wins, the two candidates, Jody Stahancyk and Jack Bogdanski, have 1610 and 1174 votes respectively. Micaela, on the other hand, has 281 votes.

Do I have reason to worry?
