Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
Text from Luke Sikma earlier today:
Their first game is Monday July 16 at 5 PM against the Clippers.
With TJ and Luke both in Las Vegas, and playing against each other on Thursday July 19 @ 5 PM in the Cox Pavilion, it would seem, another (unscheduled) trip to Las Vegas is coming up.
You can catch much of the action on NBA TV:
July 16 L.A. Clippers Cox Pavilion 7:00 PM NBA TV (tape delay: July 17 6 AM)
July 17 Charlotte Thomas & Mack 7:30 PM NBA TV
July 19 Cleveland COX Pavilion 5:00 PM NBA TV
July 22 Memphis COX Pavilion 5:00 PM NBATV
Just checked with him, yep, he's on the Timberwolves Summer League roster in Las Vegas. (And his dad, Jack, is one of the assistant coaches).Touchdown in Vegas!

One Luke Sikma/Timberwolves game I failed to mention earlier is the game Saturday @ 5 PM against an NBA D-League Select team in the Cox Pavilion. It is NOT televised! But if you are in Las Vegas.....

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
Saw these tweets tonight:
Is Luke Sikma a baller? Seems like it today. That or I'm getting his buckets mixed up with Robbie Hummel's.
Better tune in for the delayed broadcast of the Clippers and T-Wolves at 6 AM PDT (Tuesday) on NBA TVSources confirm that Luke Sikma is a baller.

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
Had the opportunity to watch both Luke and TJ in action yesterday.
Luke was his usual solid self, scoring only two points, but often directing the "rookies" where they should cut or position themselves. The T-Wolves roster has 20 players, at least 12 of them playing F/C, so I was impressed Luke got as much time as he did. There were many times when the T-Wolves had no PG on the floor, but they had a “coach” in Luke.
TJ looked very much in control of his team from the PG position. Scored 11 on 2/2 from 3pt and 5/5 from the line (missed a 2 and had another swatted). He shared minutes with a couple of rookie all-stars, but was much more solid and in control, just not as flashy.
Notes: Adam Morrison was playing for the Clippers (clean-shaven)…looked ok, but easy to see the potential. Rob Jones was playing for Cleveland...didn't add much. Didn't see him play, but noticed Drew Viney is on the Heat roster.
Don't forget, TJ vs. Luke on Thursday @ 5 PM PDT on NBA TV and NBA.com

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
In last night games Luke was out-muscled, but not out-hustled. He did not score (I think he took 2 or 3 close-in shots), but he stayed aggressive, was in good position, and played smart.
But just like TJ's chances, Luke's are not with the NBA, at least not while there are taller, stronger, more athletic, prolific scorers ahead of him.

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
UPDATE:
According to my PDX area Comcast schedule, the TJ vs. Luke game is now a taped broadcast at Midnight Thursday night/Friday morning.
I'm assuming it will still be on NBA.com at 5 PM, but maybe I shouldn't!

TJ and Luke on Court
Sorry, this isn't much of a picture, but it does show Luke, on the left, and TJ, #10, on the court together in Las Vegas. I hope our current Pilots ARE also good enough to be invited to Summer League one day!

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
I would love to see a video of this (via Twitter from the Timberwolves PR):
"Luke Sikma w/ the huge put-back slam off a Johnson miss. Brings the #Twolves bench to its feet. #WolvesInVegas"

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
From the Minnesota Timberwolves Official Website:
http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/look-back-wolves-2012-summer-leagueBiggest Standout Performances: Luke Sikma & Kammron Taylor:
The two players who made the biggest impression through their play were forward Luke Sikma and guard Kammron Taylor. Sikma, son of Wolves assistant coach Jack Sikma, is a 6-foot-8 power forward out of the University of Portland who simply willed his way into more and more playing time. He started out playing about nine minutes per night, but through his work ethic and productivity he continued to earn minutes. In his final two games, Sikma played a combined 35 minutes, went 8-for-9 from the field for 16 points and collected 14 rebounds. He showed an innate rebounding ability for which he was known in college—he averaged 10.5 boards per game as a senior—and was consistently around the rim waiting for tip-ins on missed shots. He also made an impact setting solid screens for his teammates.
Taylor has played the past five seasons in Europe after a successful four-year career at the University of Wisconsin. The Minneapolis native played significant minutes at the point guard position this week, and when he was in he played a big role in helping the offense function. Over his final two games, he shot 9-for-18 with 26 points. Adelman called Taylor the surprise of the camp, comparing his game to a combination of Rafer Alston and Aaron Brooks—a knockdown shooter who gets the system. Adelman credited Taylor for keeping the Wolves on track during the win against Cleveland on Thursday.

Re: Luke on Timberwolves Roster in Las Vegas
Very good article; liked that it was about Luke AND his dad, Jack. It was obvious the author didn't know Luke just spent a season in La Palma, Spain playing in Spain's 2nd league........he talked about Luke's time in Las Vegas as "his first five days as a professional."NoPoNeighbor wrote:Another great article on the Timberwolves website:

LUKE SIGNS!!!
Based on Luke’s good season with La Palma in Spain’s LEB Silver League last year, and his excellent showing at the NBA Summer League, Luke has signed a tidy little contract with Autocid Ford Burgos in the Gold League.
I’m sure Luke enjoyed his time in La Palma (where he quickly learned the language and appreciated the culture), but now he’s headed to a much bigger city and more opportunities in Burgos, Castilla y León, in northern Spain. Burgos is about 160km from Bilbao and about 250km from Madrid.
Congratulations to Luke........living the dream!

Another battler, Rodericc, AKA Rodrigo Diaz or El CID, is from Burgos and was born in Bivar/Vivar, a hamlet just out of town.
Congrats to Luke. The Spanish he learns there will be a bit different.
