Re: New Women's Pro League!
Their 2013 draft pick isn't going to be much help for a few reasons.
1) she signed for another year with Bayern Munich during the last transfer window, which means that even if she came here she wouldn't be available until mid June or so. That didn't work out with Rapinoe in Seattle. Good as she is, the Reign season was over by the time Rapinoe got there.
And Amber is no Rapinoe.
2) Amber is a holding mid type. She has marginal passing skills, and isn't fast enough to play outside defender at the pro level. When she was in Portland last year she wasn't fast enough to bother anyone. She is a good ball winner, but not much of a feeder for our forwards. We are sorely in need of a central mid who is.
3) Amber showed no inclination to play for Cone either last winter or this summer. Like Rapinoe, she probably could have played during the Euro summer break but chose to " Vacation"
These aren't things to plan next year's defence around.
On another note, word on the net is that Dougherty won't be back next year either. She might have been their best defender this year.
