2013 Prospects
I was looking at the recruiting SS and giving some thought to next years starting line up.
I think it will be likely that our seniors will start with the exception of Cameli whos speed is a good choice off the bench. The others: Dees, Bridges, Johnson, Parker, Cruz, Capelle, and Frisbie if not injured I see as starting most games.
Strong under classwomen will be Kurle (probably a lock on holding mid with her recent play), McCluskie on the backline, LaProvotte in the middle, and Sipple and Jeter up top. If we see the normal maturity going from FR to
SO, LaProbotte and Jeter could be real force next year.
That doesn't leave a lot of spots for the highly touted frosh coming in.
Those listed as Forwards on the Boon, Edenstrom, and Evans. Both Evans and Boon have NT experience.
In the Mid-Field you have the local girls Kendrick and Viera and Wetherington a NT player from GA.
The lone Defender is Hall a NT player from CO.
My prediction is that the Frosh forwards will be subbing in most of the season and I expect they'll get lots of time with the starting crew up top we have coming back scoring lots of goals.
We might see someone breaking in as Frosh to start on either the outside back position or somewhere in the MF. We know that they play folks at new positions. Could be Hall on the backline or Wetherington in the middle is my uneducated guess.
Anyone else interested in predicting starting 11 for next year.
Also, We have Downing for two more years given her RS season. Any word on new GK coming in?

Re: 2013 Prospects
Judging from past descriptions of players and where they have said they expect to play, Edenstrom, Parkes and Viera might well be defenders.

Re: 2013 Prospects
Gnarly, I'm curious about your line-up prediction. Assuming the normal 4-4-2, where do you see Parker (EP)? And who do you see in Taylor's spot?
I thought Haily D. played very well for a freshman while Taylor was injured and I could see her returning to that spot. It also seems possible that if EP plays then DJ, Noelle or Sipple will be on the bench. Assumig that none of the new freshmen break into the starting line-up.
Personally I'd like to see Kendall at mid, but she is such a strong defender it would be difficult to move her up.

Re: 2013 Prospects
Cruz is one possibility but I like to see her in MF than outside back. I also would like to see if Bridges can move up to mid. She has been valuable on the back line, but I also like her MF skills. IF we can find the next Ellie R. or Jessica T., maybe we can have both Kendall and Michelle move forward.
They will have more options next year with all the Frosh coming in and only TB graduating. Should give us much more cushion when we do have injuries which are routine.
Like always, depends on who is healthy come next fall, how much the underclasswomen mature in the spring (take Kurle this year for example), and which of the new Frosh are ready to jump into the fray straight away.
I'm looking forward to spring ball and seeing al the new frosh come August.

Re: 2013 Prospects
Chris White has a nice write up about Portland. This makes me look forward to 2013!
http://www.allwhitekit.com/?p=10958#more-10958
It goes without saying that Portland made some positive strides this year. After last year’s trying season, which saw the Pilots struggle to make the NCAA Tournament, the club’s journey to the postseason was much more sedate this year, though the club was a bit streaky in form. But their second round exit in the NCAA Tournament was disappointing in the sense that they had earned a national seed and probably lost a round too early in that sense. A lack of depth and injuries took their toll on the Pilots at times this season, with Ellen Parker not making it back for the postseason, and Micaela Capelle being limited in minutes by similar concerns. While pessimists might argue that Portland’s time as an elite program has passed, 2013 looks like it could be a monster year for the program. Ten starters look set to return, with the club also adding what looks to be a great recruiting class. Given the challenges facing the club this season, a second round exit after a strong regular season will probably be tolerable, but the pressure may be on next season to claw their way back up towards the nation’s elite.

Re: 2013 Prospects
Anyone know if we have shot at either Betsy Brandon or Jordon Di Biasi from Colorado Rush club. They are both '15's and Brandon went to Olympics with Danica Evans who is a '13 UP recruit. Hope Sinc, Soph, and Megan put in a good word for us (As if their play was not enough encouragement)
Also what about another McKinney TX player, Taylor Cobb. Has Amanda won her over?
Lastly, a couple from CA: Arielle Schechtman a GK from SD surf or Cristina Settles from Oceanside. Anyone know if UP on their short list?

Re: 2013 Prospects
The GK Schechtman showed up on recruiting SS as going to UCLA. We need a goalkeeper or two to start showing on UP's list.

Re: 2013 Prospects
There's one supposedly on the list for 14, Taylor Luty from Sunset. With 2 on the roster, they're probably safe for this year. Didn't they sign a GK in 2012 and redshirt her this year? If so, that would give them another one for the future.
