Seriously, you're 2-2 when starting the game thread?!
We should probably check with Basketball State, but I'm thinking if we were to divide your salary by your number of wins........

Yeah and I was 2-1 up until a couple weeks ago. Had the Bakersfield and PSU wins and they even played well-ish in my one game thread loss (New Mexico).
Then Santa Clara happened.
Assuming the Pilots can't pull off the upset tomorrow, I'll be holding off on game threads until the tourney...8/9 against LMU would be my best chance to pull back up to .500 for the year. Yes, I have seriously thought about this.

I recommend you head down the coast and watch the Jets play in North Carolina and Florida instead of staying home in the freezing temperatures concerning yourself with a W/L record…..

Re: Pilots @ San Francisco, Thursday 7:00 (WCC Digital)
I caught most of the 2nd half on the radio. Looking at the box score, Derrick Rodgers was 0-2 on 3pt tries! Yeah! VDM and Riley B combined for 22 points. Looks like the middle opened up some. Even though the 3 pt percentage was pretty low, 29% on 4-14, the overall percentage was 50%. USF got more 3's and more FTs, but only shot 41% overall. and that was enough to eek out a win.

yeah baby!
forty in the first half. seventy-eight for the game. I'm just sorry I missed the offensive explosion and what sounds like a good overall performance. Way to go Pilots!

"The Pilots raced to a 40-33 halftime lead as Bailey, playing without a facial mask for the first time since WCC play began, scored 13 first half points to lead the way."
Maybe that's all it was... the face mask was bad luck!

Re: Pilots @ San Francisco, Thursday 7:00 (WCC Digital)
Bryce passes the length of the court to Thomas…..and he scores, again….nice!
Watched the game on video at the Chiles Center while watching the women lose (again) to USF….just the reversal from last week when I was watching the men lose at home and the women win on the road. We need some home wins!
Good heads-up play tonight, it was obvious the Pilots had scouted the Dons’ tendencies very well and made them pay for overplaying the ball on a number of occasions. Rex was outcoached tonight!
Thomas had his third straight good game, and as we were promised, KB left his mask off before shoot-around yesterday, and it certainly was good to see him be the “old” KB without the mask tonight. I haven’t seen the stats yet, but must have killed USF in the paint.

I tried this logic in the Santa Clara game thread using the LMU win. No dice.

Re: Pilots @ San Francisco, Thursday 7:00 (WCC Digital)
Great performance tonight! I wasn't feeling confident heading down the stretch, but they pulled it out. 13 turnovers... still too many, but headed in the right direction. And Rodgers... what a game! 8 assists and only 1 TO. Great leadership tonight.
I love the scoring balance. I think we are at our best when K. Bailey leads in scoring, as he did tonight. And then solid contributions on the inside from BOTH centers, and of course from Nicholas. And Tanner Riley provided some spark off of the bench, despite being a bit erratic from three-point range. He needs to continue to find ways to make a positive impact even when his long-range shots aren't falling. Great job in that regard tonight.
It was great to see Ehlers and Pressley make nice contributions. Any idea why Thieleke didn't get into the game at all?

By the way, that turnover at the end where Pressley had the ball poked away off the inbounds was BS. Didn't have sound as per usual but I'm assuming the announcers were saying much the same.
Ehlers getting meaningful minutes down the stretch was interesting to see.

Rev and his substitution pattern has been and always will be a head scratcher. Im sure there is a method in there somewhere but it isnt always evident during the games.
I couldnt see, was Korey in the gym? Another example of a head scratcher. How does Korey go from starter to zero minutes? I would have thought his defense would have been useful against Avery.

Hmm, that is strange considering how much energy Korey brings, and how he can go to the rim....there had to be some physical reason.NoPoNeighbor wrote:Any idea why Thieleke didn't get into the game at all?
Bryce started tonight and basically played the entire game...no Korey and very little Oskars.

Haha, from our friend, Rex:
"Portland played a good game and I thought they were a lot tougher than we were," said USF head coach Rex Walters. "As proud as I was after the BYU game, this is one of the most disappointing losses we've had since I've been here. There was no defensive intensity. Portland usually plays in the 60's and they scored 78 on us.
"We talked about agressiveness and toughness but we just didn't do it tonight."

Not sure why the "Haha" in response to Walters' quote. Seems like a pretty fair assessment of what happened in the game. Honestly, teams should be embarrassed if UP scores 78 points on them. We had more points in the first half tonight than we did in the entire game against St. Mary's.

Oskars is no mystery. We have been told he has plantar fasciitis - takes months to heal and can be very painful at times.DoubleDipper wrote:Hmm, that is strange considering how much energy Korey brings, and how he can go to the rim....there had to be some physical reason.NoPoNeighbor wrote:Any idea why Thieleke didn't get into the game at all?

Looking at the standings this morning, that OT loss to Pepperdine really stinks now.
If the Pilots beat BYU on Saturday we may have to pass around a hat to send DTLegend to Spokane in a couple weeks.

I'd rather pay to bring DTL to Portland for next week's games.
BTW, after learning that we literally can't "buy" a win, I learned today from reading the ESPN commenters that the game was fixed. So, somebody bought a win. Oh, gamblers
