I saw in paper that services may cancel games because of government shut down. Both Navy and
Army cancelled their games today. Not good for Patriot league.

In a measure of how much the academies value women's soccer, they announced that the Army-Air Force Football game is a go for Saturday, government shutdown or no.gnarly wrote:I saw in paper that services may cancel games because of government shut down. Both Navy and

Great to see the women's program revived and kicking, and it's nice to see Santa Clara's program representing well for the WCC again this year too!

Re: Other scores
Santa Clara IS DEFINITELY repping the WCC...they have only three losses...to Stanford, North Carolina, and number one Virginia. When we play them November 7, our game should represent a high RPI for either of the two teams. One other thing of note...Jerry Smith's teams have given him 400 wins now.

Re: Other scores
HUGE results today. penn State, Notre Dame, and Stanford just lost.
In fact, most of our opponents lost today, which didn't doo us much good. we dropped to #31
Marquette is plugging along to #11, though. We were near there at the start of the weekend.

Not a good weekend for our opponents: UO lost twice, CMU lost twice, Wyo lost twice. MQ won twice. Stanford split, NV split, WF tied ND, Mizz tied one and lost one, SD St won one game, UW won once.

Re: Other scores
Is the ACC that much better than the rest of the nation?
5 teams in the top ten.
8 in the top 22.
Is BC (22) that much better than UP (31)?
No doubt VA and UC are worthy of 1 and 3, but the rest?

Re: Other scores
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the RPI yet, it isn't designed to do a good job ranking teams at this time of year. What you're seeing in the Pilots ranking is a weak strength of schedule, which often gets exaggerated at this stage of the season -- although it is a problem and will be probably at the end of the season.
For current rankings, I'd go to either Massey or Bennett, each of whose rankings are designed for current use:
http://masseyratings.com/rate.php?s=csocw2013&sub=11590
http://bennettranking.com/women/d1
Massey has the Pilots ahead of BC; Bennett has BC ahead.
Also, ranking differences like you're looking at aren't enough to be reliable. The best that statistical ranking systems can do is tell you that a group of teams within a ranking range are roughly equal.

Thanks.
I have been looking at Bennet, and soccertimes and espn and topdrawer, but had not seen Massey.

Re: Other scores
Dan No Yell, To answer your questions; Yes, Maybe and Probably.
As a whole, the ACC is by far the top conference in the nation this year based on results. From the ACC games I've seen this year, the top 8 in their conference are capable of giving any of their opponents a game on any given day. NC, VA and FSU look like top 5 teams. While I haven't seen VA play, the speed that NC and FSU are playing at is pretty amazing.
Re: BC vs. UP, it's hard to say. it would be a good game to watch. Looking at schedules, BC's played a harder schedule, especially when you factor in the conference schedule. Coupled with a win over WF, that probably also plays a role in the ranking.
Looking at the other conferences, there aren't a lot of teams that are standing out IMHO. Stanford and UCLA on the west coast are probably a cut above with Cal & UP knocking on the door. I'm still a little surprised BYU and SC are ranked as high as they are. I'm not sold on Denver, but they did knock off BYU in Provo.

UVA _ ND 1-1 at the half

Irish started the game with Cari Roccaro at forward and were overwhelmed on defense. UVA scored first.
They moved her to Dmid and the score is now 2-2

Re: Other scores
After being totally dominated by UCLA for 88 minutes the late goal seems to have energized Stanford. They controlled the first Ot. They didn't score but came close on at least 3 shots.on to the second OT.
