Tough to win when you've got Mr. Bean as an official.

And this inability to deal with LMU's press is brutal. Bad decision after bad decision after bad decision.

The "handling" of LMU's pressure is unacceptable. Unreal. We just freeze up and panic.
A 5-second call? Unbelievable.

Why is David Carr in the game!?!? Get him off of the floor. Pressley at point. Put Riley in.

Not sure how it could be worse than what's been on display tonight.

I have been wondering this for a good chunk of the 2nd half. Oye.

There is plenty of blame to go around.
Sharp, Nicolas, Pressley.

Unbelievable. We get to the conference tourney and see the same crap year after year after year. Against LMU. Un-freaking-believable.

I did not suggest that Riley play point. I specifically said that Pressley should play point. And Riley should be in the game instead of Carr, who air-balled a 3-pointer a few seconds ago.

I don't understand how Reveno could continue to put Carr back out on the floor. He must not be watching the game.

FYP. Coach can't get a free pass on this one. The subs patterns, the inability to make any adjustments against the press, another turnover on an inbounds play ...

I agree. That decision is square on Reveno... every time he put him back in. I don't get it.
What horrid game all around--like Geezer said, the blame is to be spread around though.

Re: WCC First Round: UP vs. LMU, Thursday 6:00 (BYUtv)
Pathetic end to the season. I feel terrible for Nicholas, Thieleke, and Tanner Riley. There were a lot of bone-head turnovers tonight. But I put primary blame on the coaching staff. They couldn't figure out a plan to deal with the trap. And they were unwilling to do what needed to be done in terms of altering their game plan and personnel.
Sure, he beat Gonzaga and BYU. But I'm not sure Reveno should survive this. With the talent on this team, and the leaders in a variety of statistical categories, it is outrageous that this team finished with a losing record and was ousted in the first round of the WCC tournament.

1-7 in games decided in overtime or less than 3 points. Take that for what you will.
And the 1 win was only because of sheer ridiculousness thanks to #11.
edit: Also, 20 turnovers. 20!!!!

It is the heat of the moment, yes... and I should wait and cool down before commenting. But I really have to question the coaching staff (again). Look at all the close games this year... BYU was the only one we won, right? USF, Pacific, USD twice... we were not able to close out any of these games. Wow.
The Pilots record in elimination play under Reveno is pathetic. We have played in the play-in round how many of these seasons? Didn't we lose to a lower seed every time, too?

Add in the 2 first-round losses in the CBI (or whatever that tourney is called) too.

3. Pacific, Northern Colorado, Hawaii. All on the road, for what that's worth. At least those teams got there.

Re: WCC First Round: UP vs. LMU, Thursday 6:00 (BYUtv)
Wow! How fickle a fan base you guys are… Is it that the 3rd time is the charm? Seriously?? None of this is new with Rev and his staff. I see a lot of "Rev" fans raising the same questions that they were jumping on us "Pilot" fans for asking last season. "Give him another chance", you said. "He's a great guy and his tweets are witty", I recall hearing. The X's and O's have been dreadful for years. The end of game decision making has always been questionable. When you surround yourself with assistants that just follow your lead and never question your judgement you end up with hail Mary passes to Riley Barker with 4 secs on the clock. (We were only down by one right??)
The university has to decide whether basketball prominence in this league is a priority or are we content being the also-ran that occasionally gets a big win over a ranked team.
Too bad for Bailey and Wintering who might've been ready to go on Sat. Too bad for Tanner Riley who learned in the last game of his career that his coach would rather lose the game with David Carr than give his senior one more chance down the stretch. Too bad for John Bailey, who was a highly recruited player out of HS, and could never gain the coaches trust. And most of all… too bad for UP.
Can't wait for the next tweet tho… Should be a doozy!

You rally think it was x's and O's?
That he coaches running over players and passing to no one?
Maybe it was the players and not the coach.
That he coaches running over players and passing to no one?
ok, bobby, throw it wider. There was a one in a million chance VDM coulda got that pass. Once again. Let's run through it until we get it 100% wrong
Maybe it was the players and not the coach.

Re: WCC First Round: UP vs. LMU, Thursday 6:00 (BYUtv)
The problem, NewPilotFan, is the financial realities of the situation.
Last year, there were calls for giving Rev one more chance, with a team that would (finally) have some mature talent. (Yes, the unbalanced class thing was self-inflicted). I don't think that was all that unreasonable at the time. UP is a small program; without the deep pockets to casually fire a coach (and pay out the contract) while paying even more for a new coach. The U is not in a position to go out on a limb, and they didn't last year. The U went with the conservative decision to keep Rev.
So, this year, a year with the most talent we have had in the last 4 years or so... we end up with a losing record overall, a tie for 6th place in WCC play, the #7 seed, and another play-in round loss. The U took a conservative stance in keeping Rev after last season, a stance I can't really disagree with (where should they have pulled funding from to fire him?). But now we have another year of evidence, and we know how that went.
The U has raised money to renovate Chiles Center, raised money for the new practice facility as part of the new Beauchamp Center, and increased funding for recruiting, assistant coach salaries and staff positions. At what point will the U say that they are not getting enough return for that investment and decide to bite the bullet and make a coaching move? Remember, a coaching move is no guaranty of improvement, either. Who would we be able to afford to lure in that is an automatic improvement?
Are we at the point that we can't afford NOT to do something major? This program is mired in misery, fans are not attending, UP gear is not selling, our athletic reputation is still stuck in "Who are the Pilots? They aren't Division I, are they Division II?". We have lost season ticket holders, and this year will not reverse that trend. Yes, we beat GU and BYU, but we still maintain embarrassing recent results against those programs.
The results under Reveno don't lie (Wins/losses, butts in seats, general interest, etc). Are the recruits we are bringing in closing the gap with the rest of the conference? I am anxious to see what the next move by the U is...
I am no expert, but what I do believe is that something needs to change. Not a little change. Something program-changing.

Re: WCC First Round: UP vs. LMU, Thursday 6:00 (BYUtv)
Geez, he was the guy that recruited them, coached them and at crunch time couldn't set up decent in bound plays...need I go on? Ok I will...his guard coach at least has to go...5 losing seasons out of 8??? You pontificate on almost every aspect of Pilot athletics, tell me that has been the improvement in our program..from 7th or 6th in a 8-9 team conference? To a 7 the place finish in a 10 team conference! 3 straight losing seasons, especially this year with a veteran corps. Coaching errors are the main consistent factors in the failure of this program.
