2018 Season

From what I can determine Coach French has received commitments from her first two recruits:

1. MF Destinee Manzo, Mater Dei HS, Santa Ana, CA/Slammers FC
2. MF Madison Carter, Timberline HS, Boise, ID/FC Nova

It also appears as many as three commits under the previous staff may not be coming to UP after all...the two recruits who are apparently still planning to sign are:

1. D Katherine McKay, Desert Mountain HS, Scottsdale, AZ/SC del Sol/USA Development Academy
2. MF Lily Schlake, Rocky Mountain HS, Meridian, ID/FC Nova

Always fun to speculate, and there might be a couple of surprises, but we should know more in the next couple of days as NLI signing begins in just a few hours...

Well, you have me all excited now!

It appears that the coaching staff are trying to recruit male students on campus with soccer experience to form a practice squad for the women. This is already common practice in women's basketball. I don't know if that is new to this program or revolutionary or what, but I thought that was a cool public step they are taking to improve the product of the program.

From what I can discern online, Manzo, Carter, and Schlake will sign NLIs soon...after the usual gathering of teammates and coaches and family members, but I doubt sincerely that Coach French is done recruiting for 2018.

On her first few days on the job she talked about recruiting both internationally and at the JUCO level, and with a number of openings on the roster (at least three), I'm sure we'll see some additions before the end of the school year.

(Contrary to my original post, I believe all three of the student-athletes that will sign were recruited by Garrett Smith's staff...originally there were six Smith recruits coming to UP in 2018).

Any rumors on any current players possibly transferring?

Western Washington University has announced they will be playing at UP on Saturday April 14th.

The roster shows 18 players, three of those are Goalies, which leaves 15 field players. Wow! Leaves them a bit thin. Going to be tough conducting Spring practices if they are down three freshmen as well.

The name I noticed missing on the Roster was Kaycie Young, who redshirted her Sophomore year due to an injury.

Not sure what you mean by, "down three freshmen."  

As far as I know, this past season's freshman class is still intact and ready to play this spring....as freshmen.

The incoming freshman class, and internationals and transfers, likely won't arrive at UP until June.

But yes, it is a very "thin" roster.

Yeah, I see they haven't added the freshman class for next season yet.

Portland State shows a Spring game at Merlo with UP on the 20th of April.

Not on the Pilots, but the Thorns are playing three games at Merlo in March (while Providence Park construction is underway).  It's a mini-tournament, here's the full tournament schedule:

The men have been very public with their spring schedule. Any word on the women's schedule this spring?

Portland State at Merlo April 20.

UP vs. Seattle University April 14 at 3pm. Location MAY be at Hillsboro Stadium where SU will play Portland State at 10:30am.

Not according to Western Washington, who thinks they will play at Merlo against UP at 2:00 PM

Just got word that time of the 4/14 scrimmage w/WWU is 2pm.  The time for the 4/20 scrimmage w/PSU is 7 PM.

Also note that the scrimmage at CU (which is listed as tentative) is tomorrow 3/9, NOT 4/9.
