It only took 455 days, but I can report the women played another school.

Re: 2020 Season
The Pilots were to play the Beavers on Saturday, but because of the forecast of some good old English Football weather the game has been rescheduled for:
Wednesday at 3pm at Merlo Field... it will be live-streamed!

Re: 2020 Season
Well, at first it was not better than the men. Down 3-1 after 30 minutes, it was a tale of two halves as the Pilots scored 3 goals in the second half, with the 4-3 winner coming off the boot of Jamie Rita in the 85th minute after Taryn Ries' earlier hat trick.Geezaldinho wrote:Yay! Strange without fans, you could hear all the chatter from the players and coaches, and what surprised me was the solid sound of the ball every time is was booted...it wasn't that cold (in my living room ) but the ball sure sounded cold.

Re: 2020 Season
It was a very frustrating game early and a very exciting and well-played game in the second half. To their credit, the Pilots never gave up, kept working hard, and received a well-deserved reward in the end.
With this so far being the only non-conference game on the schedule, it was a big one.

Re: 2020 Season
Frenchie pretty much summed up what we saw from a team that hadn’t played a D1 game in 461 days.
To their credit, they figured it out and got better as the match wore on.

Re: 2020 Season
The Saturday, February 20, game against Loyola Marymount has been moved from Portland to LMU and the time has changed from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. It appears the reason is field conditions due to the weather. The announcement at the U of P website contains a link for watching the game.

Face it, we Pilot fans are spoiled by the superb video presentations and play-by-play commentary we get for all our athletic events at home.UPSoccerFanatic wrote:I have video, but no sound! It makes for a strange game.

The lack of audio, coupled with the very-hard-to-read numbers that the Pilots have used the last few years, makes it very hard to tell the players. Live stats help some.
They are in a 4-2-3-1 with Sawan up top, Brummett behind, Ries (right) and Roe on the wings. Can't tell who is in defense with Ashe, Walker, and Winkelmann. Farley, Mattice, and Rita are all listed as MF on stats. One is playing in central defense.
Pilots dominating possession as always, but mostly between the boxes, as usual...

Pilots lead in pony tails 11 to about 8. Megan wouldn't fit on this team!

Game notes so far:
LMU has about a 20mph tailwind (it's gusting) and there are approximately

We also lead by a wide margin in blonds this year.

Ugly goal. Scrum in the box with 8 players kicking at the ball, and the Pilots score.
And an equally ugly one the other way...

And then the steam ends on YouTube 15 minutes before time. A certain lack of quality there.

Re: 2020 Season
Turnbow is just too good, but IMO it was an ill-advised UP goal-kick that created the second goal.
Why would the goal keeper attempt to kick a long high ball into a 25 mph headwind...the result was almost preordained.
SCU, 2-0 at the half...I'm heading to the golf course.

Re: 2020 Season
That was more like it! Ries was well, Ries, and Adams was very solid on defense...
Question: Perhaps it is because I've been watching a lot of women's basketball, but did it seem to anyone else that the game was more physical without referee action than in previous games/seasons?

Re: 2020 Season
I agree on both Ries and Adams. This is the first game I have noticed how well Adams can play.
I do not think this was any more physical than usual, although I wonder if there is a gradual trend towards more physicality at this level. At the pro level and national team level, the game is very physical, so I am not surprised if it is getting that way here.

Re: 2020 Season
I think the boarding incident on Jamie right before the half could easily have been yellow or even red. The ball stayed out of touch but the defender made contact in touch - obstruction.
And the 7 yards between the line and the concrete makes it dangerous play. The was a red card at almost the same spot a few years ago that led to a season ending injury.
Of course, that was before they padded the concrete.

Re: 2020 Season
They looked much better today, but against a weaker opponent that did not close down effectively. Too early to get too optimistic, I'm afraid.
