Looks like he holds offers from EWU (makes sense), a few other mid majors, Oregon State, and Washington State. He's a two sport athlete and holds football scholarships from some high majors as well.

Good to have you back! And uhhh, yeah, they pretty much started getting right after it!

I also saw floating around last night that the Pilots offered Tyler Linhardt (SF/PF from King's HS in Seattle). Other offers from Washington, Washington State, Boise State, and EWU.

Time to buckle up! Looks like Coach Legans is getting right to it!

Coach Legans promised to talk to high school coaches in the PNW to find the best "locals" to join the Pilots in the future, and he has kept his word.

Considering what we've seen of the 2021-22 roster so far, and barring transfers, etc., there will be only one open spot in 2022, so Linhardt going to UW is not a disappointment.

Joshua Jefferson is a 6-8 forward from Las Vegas.

Among the known schools offering him are Creighton, Pepperdine, UNLV, and Texas A&M.

Quincy McGriff, from LA, is the point guard that Chase Adams is hoping to beat out at Salt Lake CC...that would be an interesting coincidence if McGriff were to come to UP next season

McGriff is a foot taller than Adams...

McGriff has received multiple offers and is expected to receive a lot more between now and signing day.



Quincy averaged 11 ppg, 3 apg, 3 rpg, and shot 42% from three as a freshman.

The assistant coaches are in Arizona watching a showcase of prep players and have offered 6-8 PF Jack Mani from Beverly Hills.

From October 2020:

Still in Arizona at the showcase, the staff has offered 6-0 PG Braeden Smith from Seattle.

Payne has gather a number of offers while playing AAU ball this summer:  UP, Southern Utah, UC Davis, Cal Baptist, San Jose St., Montana, Denver, Montana St., Colorado St., Utah Valley, and Idaho

You are correct, UP is in some nice company, at least three of those schools have been tantalizing Payne with the prospect of playing college football.

A high school quarterback, he's been heavily recruited by UNM in recent weeks, but UP is the only school on the list that is undefeated in American football for over 70 years...

Would those schools be Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico?

Colorado State, Idaho, and Portland are the only three schools that made the "top six" from Lomiton's post. Utah, CU, and UNM kinda came out of nowhere to make his top six.

Word on the street is that he's not playing football this season to concentrate on basketball.

Owyhee is a new school with a new athletic program. Their hoops coach is Payne's AAU coach and ex-coach of one of the 4a (2nd most populated student bodies) powerhouses. He's bringing over his stud hooper from that program and Payne. Lots of people think Owyhee will win the state 5A championship right out of the chute.

The street word is always the best, IMO.  Good to hear Payne will concentrate on basketball...I had been told a few of the "smaller" schools were looking at him for football, including New Mexico, Idaho, Montana, and Montana St.

Payne's list looked something like this in mid-July after he and his teammates began tearing it up in front of hundreds of college coaches in Phoenix:

I think the early signing period begins on November 10 this year, one day after UP plays at ASU in the season opener.

Honestly, I think football might be a better sport him long term but not as a quarterback, even if he's got a cannon for an arm. For awhile I think he was looking at walking-on as on athlete for D1 football but after his successful summer it looks like basketball is going to be direction

He's an exceptional athlete, he's got the physicality and he doesn't play scared. His only issue will be post college where I don't think he has the height or elite quicks for the next level.

He's tailor made for a team that likes to get out and run and get after it defensively. In other words, he'd be a great fit for the new edition Pilots.

As much as a player might seem to be tailor-made for a team on the court, it often takes a campus visit to determine a student-athlete would not be a good "fit" as a teammate.

I do not think the coaches are all that concerned about early-signing someone when there is just one player graduating at the end of this coming season...but more visits to The Bluff are expected in the days to come.

DD, after watching Shantay's Eastern Washington teams there is no question in my mind that Jack's style of play will not be an issue. To your point, whether he is a fit as a person/player/student (and conversely, whether UP/Portland/staff/team is a fit for him) is an entirely different question. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
