Re: 2022 Recruiting
I am quoting GoPilots19 because he lists his location as the Portway Tavern and we are all going to have to buckle up while looking for a new tavern because the Portway was gutted by fire on Monday night, and it is unknown when or if it will open again for business.GoPilots19 wrote:Time to buckle up!

What’s the status here, anyway? One scholarship opening for 2022 with Jack Perry graduating?
(And maybe plus the one that is already not filled)

A sad day indeed! I put my location there because that was where I was spiritually taking in Pilots games these last few years, although I can't say I've found my way back since graduating. Was a great spot to be on a Friday or Saturday night as a Pilot, fingers crossed that it will eventually make a comeback!

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Now under 2 months to go until early signing period and it's been fairly quiet beyond the news of the Jack Payne visit. As best as I can tell, here's all 2022 players the new staff has offered but are still uncommitted:
Not going to get: Lamar Washington, 6-4 guard originally from Portland but now in Arizona. Holds offers from numerous good high majors.
Tough competition: Dasean Lecque and Quincy McGriff. Lecque's other offers include from Tim Miles and our friend Ben Johnson at SJSU along with ASU, LMU, and Boston College. McGriff (Salt Lake CC) got an offer from Rick Pitino at Iona just a couple days ago with Texas A&M and Oral Roberts among his other offers.
As good a chance as anyone: Jac Mani, a 6-9 forward from Beverly Hills. Other offers from UC Riverside, Bradley, UC Davis, Howard, Denver, Cal Poly, and Montana. I think the Pilots were his first D1 offer (June 18). DD has a highlight clip for him on the first page of this thread.
Others: Three 2022 players appear to have been offered by the Pilots only. Braeden Smith (6-0 from Seattle Prep), Shane Thomas (6-4 from Durango HS in Vegas), and Jayden Stevens (6-7 from Gonzaga Prep in Spokane). Smith may or may not have a UC Davis offer as well. As for Stevens, the last 6-7 forward the Pilots got from Gonzaga Prep turned out to be pretty darn good!
Going elsewhere: Tyler Linhardt (Washington), Oziyah Sellers (USC), Jack Payne (?).

I would not completely rule out Lamar Washington...Dean Murdoch wrote:Not going to get: Lamar Washington, 6-4 guard originally from Portland but now in Arizona. Holds offers from numerous good high majors.

Sure, it would be quite a shock to many if he were to commit to UP, and although he is attending AZ Compass Prep in Phoenix, he did attend Portland's Jefferson High, and perhaps he would like to play in front of the hometown folks and become an essential cornerstone in the rebuilding of the Pilots program.
I do not think UP is interested in Lecque any longer, but considering McGriff's size as a point guard, he may be of great interest to UP in the spring, but not this fall. It depends upon his availability and the development of UP's current back court, including Yaru Harvey.
Recruits are really liking UP’s coaching staff, but without a winning season since 2014-15 (ranked 134), the Pilots are being killed by rival school’s negative pitch about UP basketball. The negativity is well deserved, and until there are wins, it may be awhile before recruits start considering UP as a destination.

Well he would certainly eclipse Kevin Bailey and Marcus Shaver as the most coveted player to pick UP during my time following the Pilots.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Sometimes a recruit just sneaks up and commits out of the blue...
Bol Dengdit is originally from South Sudan where he played soccer before he moved to Melton, Australia (near Melbourne) at the age of 12. When he was 15 (he is now 18) he was invited to a basketball camp in Canberra where he got serious about the game and has never looked back.
This past July he was part of the Australian U19 team that played in the FIBA Basketball World Cup where he went up against Gonzaga 5-star freshman Chet Holmgren. In there head-to-head contest, Holmgren scored 10 with 8 rebounds while Dengdit also dropped 10 with 3 boards.
Now 6-11, the forward/center plans to take advantage of the early signing period next month.

Highlight video there. Moves well for a big, long dude! Exciting to have someone of his international pedigree coming in.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
In this post-Porter era there does not seem to be much excitement about Bol Dengdit's commitment on PilotNation, but he looks like he could be a program changing commitment for Coach Legans.
The video Dean Murdoch shared shows that for Dengdit, who has played serious basketball for only three years, the sky is the limit when it comes to developing his game in the right coaching environment.

Juanse Gorosito played last year at a prep school in North Carolina and this year he is at Denver Prep.
Now 6-1, he is very athletic and holds known offers from Larmar, Fordham, Southern Utah, WSU, Pacific, and San Diego.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
I have been following both Quincy and Chase at SLCC, and both are having big years, and their team is now 14-0 while averaging an eye-popping 110 points per game…DoubleDipper wrote:Quincy McGriff, from LA, is the point guard that Chase Adams is hoping to beat out at Salt Lake CC...that would be an interesting coincidence if McGriff were to come to UP next season
The leading scorer on the team is 6-8 Cal State Fullerton transfer, Doctor Bradley. Bradley is from Gardena, California and Serra High School, the same city and high school as UP Alum Pooh Jeter…so there is no doubt Coach Legans knows of him.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
Been a while since we've seen a new name on this list.
Wonder if that means they were indeed hoping/expecting to add someone at midseason here, and now that that has fallen through they're back to concentrating on next year?

Hey, I was going to post a Chase update today.
Out of the four SLCC players on this JUCO top 100 list - https://www.jucorecruiting.com/junior-college-basketball-player-rankings-top-100 - Chase Adams is the highest ranked at #20.
Seems like D1 schools are taking notice. Chase just got an offer from Stetson and Coastal Carolina offered last month. Good for him!
