Per a source, Jake Groves was told he wouldn't be a starter at Virginia, but would be guaranteed $100,000 in NIL money and would get enough exposure to be scouted by the pros...

Seen on a campus visit today...
He reminds of a bigger/longer Chika, although Chika is probably a better mid-range and free throw shooter...
(Nice video pointing out his strengths and weaknesses).

Thanks for the video! I think we have a need for that type of player!

From what I have seen on social media, incoming freshman Tyler Harris has or will sign with UP, but of the four inbound freshmen, one is very likely to be a walk-on.DoubleDipper wrote:Scholarship Players Expected to Return:

Tyler Harris, SG, freshman, 6-8/200, Livermore, California ***
*** Unconfirmed, but a teammate of Harris who is committed to St. Mary's says Harris is coming to UP.
Based upon the information above, I believe there are now 3 scholarships available for next season's team.
Returning Players: 6
Incoming Freshmen: 3 on scholarship and 1 walk-on
Incoming Transfers (so far): 1
Open Scholarships: 3
Known to have taken Official Visits to UP but their status is unknown:
Stefan Todorovic - SMU 6-8/205 Serbia - 2 years of eligibility
Kaosi Ezeagu - UTEP, Kansas St., Sam Houston St. 6-10/255 Canada - 1 year of eligibility

Kristian is definitely going pro and hired an agent last week.
Joey is still unsure of his plans, but just picked up a new car today and is planning to drive straight through to his home in Illinois. Something about a 28 hour drive in "22 hours."

It is unconfirmed, but I believe the very talented Tyler Harris is the walk-on among the four freshman arriving this summer.DoubleDipper wrote:Cyprian Hyde, PF, freshman, 6-10/220, Oceanside, California

Difficult to say if this is just a tune-up redshirt year for Harris before he goes elsewhere, but Legs has a reputation for developing walk-on redshirts.

Tyler Harris, a highly sought after incoming freshman will be on scholarship, it is another Harris, Jude Harris who will walk-on.
Jude, who played his senior year at Salesian High School in Los Angeles, is a 6-5/200lb shooting guard/small forward.
Counting Jude, it would now seem the Pilots will have at least five freshmen on the team this coming season.

Seen on campus the last couple of days, 6-7/215 Noah Jordan from D2 West Virginia St.
Jordan, from Indianapolis, played two years of JUCO ball before arriving at WVSU, a "Proud HBCU" in Institute, WV, and has one year of eligibility remaining.
From what I saw, he is very athletic and can shoot lights-out from behind the arc.

Re: 2023 Recruiting
As mentioned in an earlier post, Thomas Oosterbroek played just 3 minutes his freshman year and zero minutes this past season.DoubleDipper wrote:Coach Legans tells me he really liked the ability and attitude of Oosterbroek during his visit last weekend and hopes he will commit to UP.
So why is Coach Legans really impressed?
Well, I did a little further research and found some video tape of Oosterbroek practicing (unfortunately, I cannot find a way to link it here) and was also impressed with his length and athleticism.
So, why didn't he play? He was a walk-on on two star-studded Miami teams that made runs to the Final Four in 2022 before losing to eventual champion Kansas and to the Elite 8 this past season before losing to eventual champion UConn.
If he comes to UP, he will certainly bring a winner's attitude and three years of eligibility.

Re: 2023 Recruiting
I am told 6-7/205 Matija Belic visited UP recently.
I know little about him except that he is from Serbia, played very little at UCSB, is in the portal, and has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Only played about 153 minutes in 23 games at UCSB. His limited stats may not reflect his ability, but he shot 2-11 from 3P range and 5-11 on FTs.

Re: 2023 Recruiting
Updated view of the roster, copied from DD. Next year's roster looks like six returning scholarship players, three returning walk-ons, three portal transfers, and five incoming freshmen (at least one walk-ons).
Scholarship Players Returning:
Juan Gorosito PG
Bol Dengdit * PF
Vasilije Vučinić C
Vukašin Mašić * SG
Tyler Robertson SF
Chris Austin* SG
* Did not play last season
Walk-On Players Returning:
Coleman Lemke
Drew Stack
Andrew Younan
Known Inbound Players:
Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams, C, sophomore, 6-10/215, Aizuwakamatsu Japan, Lamar U.
Cyprian Hyde, PF, freshman, 6-10/220, Oceanside, California
Vince Delano, PG, freshman, 6-2/175, Phoenix, Arizona
Kelson Gebbers, SF, freshman, 6-6/200, Brewster, Washington
Tyler Harris, SG, freshman, 6-8/200, Livermore, California
Thomas Oosterbroek, SF, junior, 6'8"/215, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Noah Jordan, SF, senior, 6'7"/215, Indianapolis, Indiana
Jude Harris (w), SG, freshman, 6'5"/200, Los Angeles, California
Yet to be seen is if any of the freshman besides J.Harris will be walk-ons. If not, then the 13 scholarship positions are filled. Also will be interesting to see how many of the freshmen redshirt next year.
Please correct any oversights or omissions.

I would just add that although Oosterbroek will be a junior academically, he did not play this past season, so has 3 years of eligibility remaining.up7587 wrote:Updated view of the roster, copied from DD. I agree with your math, all 13 scholarships are spoken for, but with Coach Legans at the helm, there is just no telling what might transpire between now and the beginning of the school year.
