Yes that’s how auto qualifiers are determined, if they accept an invitation. It’s unclear what happens if they refuse.

OK, in the men's NIT I thought I heard that the AQs were teams who won their conference but did not qualify for the NCAA by not winning the conference tournament.

Re: 2022 Postseason
An enjoyable game with a reasonable crowd. There were a number of unforced turnovers which we will need to avoid against OSU. Our publicly denominated three point shooters are not very good three point shooters at this juncture, nor seemingly throughout the year, to be diplomatic. Rose Pflug was quite good from three and perhaps overall with some turnover issues, and Frawley was quite the boost off the bench. Those two were instrumental in the Pilot win. Fowler was a force, as usual, on the boards and in the paint.
I would think that dominating the boards as we did against CSU will not occur against the Beavers. We have a tall order attempting to pull off the win in Corvallis.
Good luck Sunday ladies. Go Pilots.

Re: 2022 Postseason
Yes, it was a good/noisy fan base last night...due in part because there were more kids than usual because of spring break, and because kids were FREE!
Rose, in what was likely her last game in the Chiles Center, showed confidence and poise under pressure like never before, and as mentioned, Keeley, normally a defensive specialist with the occasional dagger-three, was stellar on both sides of the ball.
The Pilots came out hot, hitting 4 of their first 7 3-point attempts and then missed 16 in a row. However, toward the end, when CSU was again threatening, and UP was trying to run some clock, Rose and Keeley hit a couple of unexpected treys, and that was the ball game.
Knocked to the floor three times by CSU, Alex had to cope with extremely physical play and continued to get up off the mat to dominate inside. Honestly, I don't know how she does it. 16 points/13 rebounds/6 assists/2 blocks.
Unsung player of the game, Maisie Burnam, with 13 points on8/10 5-6 shooting, with 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 18 minutes off the bench.
Note: Maddie and McKelle shot a combined 0-12 in 34 minutes...going to need to better against OSU.

Maisie asserted herself as a strong scoring presence for the Pilots in the later half of the year. Worth noting that she likely would have scored more than 13 points if she indeed shot 8 of 10: she was 5 of 6 but the point is made.
Go Pilots on Sunday.

She actually shot 8 of 10.
She made 3 fouls shots and missed one. She scored all 5 of her field goals inside the arc and missed a three pointer.

Beavers dominated with their size and strength, and the Pilots lose 74-56. The Beavers shot 56% from the field, many of them layups. I don't recall an easy layup for the Pilots all game. Beavers also made 6 of 13 3Ps, compared to the Pilots' 8 of 26 (31%).

Re: 2022 Postseason
Wont be the finish they wanted but a great season especially considering the injuries.
Defence stood up all season, but offence needs some variety besides 2 posts inside. Almost exclusively focused on high-low receives, which didnt produce against a much bigger team clogging the paint. Lots of sets of 20 seconds of passing slowly around the 3 point line then finding a difficult contested option late shot clock. No cutting actions, no off-ball screen actions, little on-ball screen action, no drive/draw/dish. Obviously tough losing Haylee who produced most of the secure drive handling inside, so will need to find more movement in O, and higher % 3s, to go next level they are capable of.
They should be proud though. Great spirit should come out of facing adversity so well and set them up well for next season

Re: 2022 Postseason
Excellent, spot-on analysis, Adam.
I sat with Keeley's and Maddie's moms today directly behind the bench and there was agreement the Pilots needed to work the ball insides and draw fouls if nothing else, but OSU was just too big with wing spans too wide to do so.
The Pilots made a nice run to get within 3, but they were ultimately just worn down by the much larger Beavers who made Alex look just average size and Lucy rail thin. OSU's 6-9 freshman from Serbia will be a force once she can play more minutes, but even now she dominated inside.
Loved the way we once again said goodbye to Rose and Maddie, especially when Maddie wrapped herself around the ball handler so she could draw the foul to stop the clock. The two of them are big losses for next year, but UP has a couple of redshirts, two inbound signees from New Zealand, and I would not be surprised if Mike went to the portal.
