When Rev accompanies the Beavers to the Chiles Center on Sunday it will be his first official return since beating Pacific 80-67 on February 20, 2016, as UP's head coach.

Portland State beat Oregon State again, 83-71. The Beavers had 18 TOs, only made 4 of 16 3P attempts, and gave up 12 ORebs. PSU got 9 steals and committed 24 fouls.

I thought the Pilots might get a "hey look at me" vanity vote in this week's AP poll, but clearly that one went to New Mexico.

https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll

A much more likely scenario is that the Pilots sneak into this week's mid-major top 25, which I think comes out later today. I say "sneak" because while the Pilots have the 17th highest Kenpom out of all teams eligible for this poll, there's also some teams ranked lower in Kenpom that clearly belong higher in this poll at the moment - Charleston, for example. Probably Seattle, too.

https://www.collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25

I think the first edition of the NET rankings comes out next week. Expect the usual uproar about certain teams being ranked extremely high with the NET not being "settled in" just yet. Sam Houston State, UC Irvine, and our friends at Kent State would all have a good shot at being ranked top 25 in the NET if they were released today.

From a Pilots perspective, don't expect a big departure from the more notable analytics sites when the NET comes out. Would likely be near the 90-100 range at the moment, which is right in line with KenPom (101) and Torvik (96). The Pilots won't have a "quality" win just yet as PSU, AFA, and Nova will all likely be Q3 wins, but on the flip side they shouldn't have a "bad loss" either. Kent, UNC, and MSU are all looking like Q1 games at the moment with Seattle a Q2 game.

Sadly, Rev might be one-and-done at OSU.

OSU played toe-to-toe with Duke in its 54-51 loss on Thanksgiving Day, but that was the only close game during the 3-day tournament that also included an 81-68 loss to Florida.

I know nothing about why he hooked up with Wayne Tinkle as the Associate Head Coach after a seemingly successful time at Georgia Tech, but it is difficult to fathom the Beaver Nation wanting Tinkle back unless there is a complete program turnaround.

Forgot to follow up on this one. The Pilots did indeed get a bunch of attention in this poll, but just couldn't break in. Oral Roberts got the most votes of anyone not in the top 25 and the Pilots were right behind ORU.

I'm not entirely sure how Norfolk State got into the poll these past few weeks.

It is rare, but St. Mary's lost at home yesterday, 69-65, to New Mexico.

SMC was favored by 9.5 points.  The Gaels next travels to Ft. Worth to take on #1 Houston.

Pepperdine had to cancel another game due to "health and safety protocols."

Santa Clara was trailing Wyoming by 8 points at the half in Salt Lake City scratch but rallied to take down the Cowboys 89-85 in OT.

Colorado St. blew out LMU and USF did the same to Little Rock, both games played on the victor's court.

Oregon St. used Coach Rev's scouting report to open an early 18 point lead against Washington, who came in off wins over SMC and Seattle U. UW came back with a 10 point run late in the game to go up 3 with 40 seconds to play. But OSU made two FTs, UW made one and missed one, then OSU made a layup with 8 seconds to go and was fouled for an And One. The made FT and a missed UW shot at the buzzer gave the Beavers a 66-65 win.

So the team coming off a second loss to the Vikings beat the team who just beat the Gaels and Redhawks. Go figure.

South Dakota beats BYU 69-68. Good luck in the B12 next year!

But I will legit miss byuTV. I can access the stream freely from my country, good feed quality, and for many years they broadcast the opening rounds of the WCC tourney.

No more WCC conference games though.

Agreed with Dean, their commentators are also top notch.

It’ll be interesting to see how tv rights are distributed in the Big 14, and if the conference HQ moves from Irving Texas

Villanova beast Oklahoma today, 70-66.

Friday GU lost to Baylor 64-63. The Zags shot 36% from the field, including 6-22 (27.3%) from 3P, and 13-21 (61.9%) on FTs. Baylor was not any better from the field, but shot 80% with 12-15 FTs, for the one-point win.

The first edition of this seasons NET rankings are out.
WCC
16 St. Mary's
29 Gonzaga
97 Portland
105 LMU
106 San Francisco
108 Pepperdine
117 Santa Clara
190 BYU
228 Pacific
237 San Diego

I don't have time to look up any opponents right now and it's likely these are still highly unstable at this point in the season.

Another  good improvement, but the 97 puts us outside the typical NIT invite range so there remains quite a bit of work to do if the team wants an at large bid to the main tournament. Start beating lower teams by more and start winning quad 1 games (likely need .500 or better). Otherwise it's going to come down to winning the WCC tournament to qualify.

I'm not expecting an NCAA appearance this year, but that sounds like the players goal.

Lunardi is the most prominent, but Dave Ommen is probably my favourite bracketology guy.

https://bracketville.wordpress.com/

Check his Bracketology and Seed List links for his most recent work, he usually updates every few days or so. I think the SMC omission on his most recent seed list was just an oversight on his part as they were part of his field last Bracketology and a loss to New Mexico wouldn't/shouldn't move SMC entirely out of his top 100.

Pilots will need to string together a couple solid wins to start getting some NIT love!

We should definitely all be Villanova fans from here on out. Would be nice if they could go on a run now that they have Cam Whitmore back.

Left the Chiles Center in a hurry to watch a very good Kent St./Gonzaga game on the DVR.

The Racers gave the Zags fits until the final 3:30 when GU went on a 11-0 run to close out the game 73-66.
