Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Upon initial viewing, I like the schedule. Not too tough, but several very good teams. I like adding Nevada, and a game vs. Air Force.
That 2/28 game at SCU could be huge in terms of seeding going into the tourney...

Great job by the WCC on switching back to the Thursday/Saturday format! My last two years at UP they were doing the Sat/Mon thing, and that was just terrible for student attendance. Thursday games should be a lot easier for students to get up for.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
So, do you think Chris Dudley is going to be at the Yale game? I'm just assuming he still lives in Portland, I can't think of any good reasons to leave such a great city.
Also, what are the chances that the game vs. Howard is played in Howard Hall? This time I am assuming that the building is still standing. That would be the greatest marketing in the city since "Protest Margie Boule" night for the Portland Beavers.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
There is no chance that there will be a game in Howard Hall. We tried to get a preseason game there last year, kind of a throwback game, but there are rules the NCAA has that we couldn't comply with

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Howdy. My first post on this forum. We have been UP season ticket holders for several years and root for UP in every game EXCEPT against GU (sorry, wife and I and kids are GU alumni).
Anyway, so far I am very impressed with UP out of conference schedule. Especially the home games. UP season ticket holders are going to see better talent coming in to Chiles than GU fans will see coming in to the Kennel.

Given my well-known dual Willamette/UP fanhood, I am absolutely STOKED for a preseason game against Linfield.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Ha ha, yeah... let's just hope we can handle them better than Western Oregon. (Ooooh.... too soon? Too soon?)
In all honesty, I think this year's team is going to be a LOT more ready to go at the beginning of the season. Last year we had so many new players and only one senior (Sherrard) and two juniors (Walter and Marcus) - not really our best players. Now everyone will have at least a year under their belt and will be coming in off a summer where they were all on campus for at least part of the summer and working out a lot, I just have a good feeling about things coming into this season.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
So we have this Home and home thing going with UW... and no OSU?? Don't get me wrong its fun seeing my two fave teams play each other, but it just seems a bit odd... Anyway I think its a good mix of teams, nothing too outrageous, but a good prep for a still relatively young team

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Oh Lord... the Huskies? How can anyone like the Huskies. You just dropped down a peg in my books.
Anyway... OSU has been a bit shady the last few seasons (I think Pooh's last season was the last time they came). They haven't come to UP in a few seasons and we were always just playing them down at their tournament in Corvallis. Then this year they balked at starting up the usual home-and-home we've had with them forever.
Personally, I think it's stupid for the schools not to play. I mean... I can understand the GU-UW thing in the sense that UW wants another cupcake on the schedule instead of GU, but UP-OSU? Neither program is setting the world on fire and seems to make sense to try and generate whatever local interest they can. I don't know... I guess I just like the in-state games.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Well I was the first person in my family to NOT go to UW.... ever.... Does that count for something??
Yeah... it doesn't make sense for me at all to not consider the series important for fans, media, etc... I like the whole in state/regional rivalry thing too and in the end the fans really miss out on a chance to see the Beavs up in the PDX. One word.... Dumb.

As the first in my family not to go to the University of Portland, I can sympathize with DaTruRochin's plight.
Just remember that there are worse schools to root for than UW . . .

There's no such thing as a closet Zag fan. If someone roots for the Zags, they make sure you KNOW it.
Oh, and it's BS that Oregon State won't play us anymore.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
I agree with the Zags comment. The interesting notion that Zaggetes swear by is their program is on par with Carolina/Kansas/UCLA or Kentucky's (not recent),or for that matter Arizona, just makes me . ,and . First, you have to make it to a final four(or WIN) let alone have a 20+yr powerhouse tradition In a major conference to be considered in that stature. Have to say Batista(SP), a few others, were fun to watch play in college and Daye's maturation should be interesting to watch.
Go Pilot Basketball
P.S.- I like that Nevada game on the schedule, their always a sleeper that may give the Pilots a good measure of their improvement over last year. No rivalry, conference game, etc, etc, just a true test for the young Pilots.
