Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
True true, gonzaga hasn't even been a consistent force for ten years yet, this year will be the tenth anniversary of the elite eight appearance with players such as Matt Santangelo and Richie Frahm. I was in fifth grade and my oldest sister went to school at gonzaga so i loved them, especially santanglo. My priorities changed when i arrived on the bluff however and gonzaga is now an enemy.

Thank god... "AN enemy" most definitely doesn't do it justice...

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
I'm with you, purplepride13. I was totally in support of the Zag team back in the day when they made their Elite Eight run, just because it was cool to see a team from the WCC do that. Even though I hated the Zags from growing up going to UP games because they felt like our rival due to proximity and because of all their stupid students coming down for our games... not to mention the brief, though good, rivalry in the mid 90's when the two schools met in back-to-back WCC championship games.
But once I became a student in 2000, my goodwill was pretty much gone, though I suppose I still was pulling for them in the tournament. It wasn't until all the cocky fans came in, their message board blew up, and the players you loved to despise like Morrison and Turiaf that I my true hate started show. Now I can't imagine myself ever rooting for them again, even in the NCAAs. Not going to lie... watching that UCLA game in the Sweet 16 a few years ago was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life - I still smile when I picture Morrison crying BEFORE the game even ended. Just fabulous.

Speaking of evil, I've always though Mark Few resembled Skeletor... maybe its just me...

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
I was in a sports bar a couple years ago watching the tournament selections when the TV started doing a piece on GU. As they do, they flashed the mascot and the big GU on the screen and start talking about how great the team is, and all that. I think there was a mention about them projected being in the final four and maybe go all the way.
A guy at the next table points at the bulldog and starts railing at about how great Gonzaga is and how they are finally getting the recognition they deserve, and how they should leave the WCC and maybe join the Pac 10 or Big East so they can get real competition.....and he's pretty obnoxious about it.
When he was done, I called over to his table and said "buddy, they're talking about Georgetown", and they were. The bar broke up.

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
Haha nice... I've always thought that whole joining the Pac 10 argument was ridiculous.... I mean mens basketball could maybe compete, but what about the rest of their programs?? Uh... it would be an absolute joke....

Re: 2008-2009 Schedule Released!!!
I got to see the Zags get upset in person when I went up to Seattle for the NCAA tournament. Nevada was a 10 seed and GU was a 2. It really made this Pilot fan's season to see the Zags' annual March flameout live. And the stunned looks from the Zag students who thought they would blow through Seattle on the way to the Sweet 16? Priceless.
And it seems like the "real competition" in the Pac-10 does pretty well against their "big-time" basketball team.
