When Do We Plan Our Trip?
Considering how wonderful of an experience the USC team had in Mexico... when do we go?

The last time UP went on a trip like this was a tournament in the Bahamas a few years ago. I seem to vaguely recall that you can only go on these trips once every four years... is that true?
Anyway, would be fun to see the Pilots do a trip like this sometime soon... it allows you to start practicing together early and get some game experience and team bonding in before real practice starts in October. Of course I'm sure it also costs a pretty penny and the competition probably isn't great, but still... I'm sure the players would love it!

I agree, international play is good experience for the players & coaches.
Releive to our non conference scheduled ..... I like the idea of kicking off the season with the tournment in Fresno and playing away games on the east coast against Yale & Army.

pretty funny
all that fuss about s spider. It's a good thing they didn't see a Palmetto Bug. I wonder how they'd react to a nice big NW banana slug?
You are right about the 4 yr thing, Stoney. It's designed so that a player only gets one of those in his/her college carreer, except for maybe the occasional redshirt.
There's a division 1 manual that has all that junk in it, for those of you who are entertained by the Mandarin rules of the NCAA. I haven't found it on the NCAA site, but it's available here: http://www.utm.edu/departments/athletics/2007-08_d1_manual.pdf
A real sports geek would download it and keep in on his thumb drive------what's that flashing light?
Careful reading will sometimes explain why schools do some of the odd things they do.
this particular rule is 17.2.5.4
I seem to recall one of those trips for the hoops team around the middle of the Holton era. They might be about due.

Ah yes... the NCAA rules manual, in all it's glory!
I think it was probably '04-'05 that they went on that Bahamas trip. I suppose I could go look at the UP site archives, but I'm too lazy.

2003? they could do another trip next month.
I see the rule used to be every 3 yrs, according to that report.

Fall 2008
I would think that next fall, 2008, would be a good year... we would have all of this year's team--minus Watson, plus the 2 new players (Watson & Jones replacements), which is really the core of the team going forward.... it would be a great time to get some bonding and extra practice in!
