Porter, Pippin in Hall of Fame
That's the NAIA hall of fame.
Seriously, how many of you recall these guys coming out of NAIA schools?
How many knew Scotty was a walk-on,
And how many ever played in a pair of Chuck Taylors?

It's funny that the shoe adopted by antiestablishment (and often times athletics) hipsters was once the pre-eminent athletics shoe... Well unless you count PF Flyers... I mean they did out run the beast...

Porter is from UW Stevens-Point I do belive. Which I thought is DIII. Though I have made mistakes before. Speaking of Stevens Point, they have a brewery, Point Brewing. They don't make very good beer.

Re: Porter, Pippin in Hall of Fame
I knew Porter was from Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Kersey went to Longwood, which is just now getting up to DI.
Duckworth went to Eastern Illinois.
It's easy to remember when the Blazers used the same starting lineup for so long.
I also remember Scottie's nickname was No Tippin' Pippin....

I think Geez,UP7587, and a few others here will remember Chucky Taylors were standard issue (white or black) if you got top of the line.........Then there were these leather shoes.....I remember in the 7th grade (for me) we got some back home from this fledgling company out of this small town in Oregon--Nike'---If your parent's got you those or you scraped up enough money from mowing lawns you were the toast of the neighborhood. But you were "Top dog" in HS hierachy if you wore those new leather shoes from Chucky Taylor's company-- The ones with the star on the side==CONVERSE. What ever happened to leather converse Geez......Phil Knight, Adidas, Rebook's, and others good marketing took them a long ways in overcoming the converse stranglehold on the tennis shoe/basketball shoe market.
Converse Im sure still makes a mint off of the Chuck Taylors, and whenever Paris Hilton or Miley Cyrus or one of these other non-athlete kid's celebs wears them they probably drool. Consequently the rest of us who wore them shudder to think how "cool in school" or on the court we could have been back then with more than two color options back in the 60's and early 70's,lol.

MESA, When I went to school, fishheads weren't the standard issue, they were the ONLY issue.
I wore the black ones in honor of Bill Russell. Wilt wore white ones.
those shoes cooked in a waffle iron weren't around yet.
Converse made a leather cross training shoe they also called Chuck Taylors . I also wore those for years, even after Phill was going great guns. When he bought Converse they got cheap and I switched brands.
