Careful. UC Irvine had an RPI of 20 last year. That's better than OSU, USC, And SCU.
They tied CAL, beat OSU, and beat the four WCC teams they faced [edit-tied Pepp], including USD.
Then they beat Arizona State and Wake in the tournament before falling to UW 1-0 in two overtimes.
They had 10 shutouts and nobody scored more than 2 goals on them.
BYU will be no slouch either. They get their first game ever in the WCC at home against us. Has potential trap game written all over it. -- At altitude ( though UP teams have usually done well where the air is thin) -- Great fan base..
And that's just from a 5 second look...

Re: 2011 schedule
From the recruiting spreadsheet: BYU loses 2 SR from last year's squad. They retain about 85% of goal and point scoring players. Remember they tied UCLA in playoffs and also lost out on PK's.

Re: 2011 schedule
Any ideas when the official schedule will be published?
I think I am going to get the 10 flex tickets and randomly select 5 games that could be fun to watch. My random selections would be:
Aug. 21 vs. Florida State
Sept. 9 vs. University of Washington
Sept. 15 vs. Stanford
Sept. 18 vs. USC
Oct. 21 vs. Santa Clara
I bet I can find a good match in at least one of those!

Re: 2011 schedule
Oregon State posted their 2011 schedule at http://www.osubeavers.com/sports/w-soccer/sched/orst-w-soccer-sched.html.
Looks like the Beavers will play a good OOC schedule with Florida State (8/19), Santa Clara (9/2) and UP (9/11). They have an interesting Pac-12 schedule with 5 of the first 6 on the road and the last 5 at home. Stanford comes to Corvallis 10/28. Looks like some great games in the state this coming season.

Re: 2011 schedule
Good work. Two corrections I see:
The Florida State game is definitely not an away game.
FSU will play Oregon State the 19th also. Soccer junkies might want to go see that game.
I also have USD as a home game from the schedule we got with the unoffficial one with the season ticket announcements. The USD schedule is posted and agrees that they come to Portland (7:00 PM)
That also balances the home/away in conference.

Re: 2011 schedule
Did some SoCal campus visits for my daughter. One of them was USC. Without an escort, we found ourselves in Heritage Hall and saw all of their Hiesmans (minus -1) and many other pointy-ball trophies too! Right beside Marcus Allen's Hiesman...I noticed the case with their College Cup trophy.
[img][/img]
I couldn't pass up the opportunity for the first strike of 2011! Just around the left wing of the building...I found their Soccer office! I didn't need to remind my daughter who has the #1 Soccer program!
She was ready to leave quick...when her dad started thinking of ways to put up some UP paraphernalia! Where's that UP Pilots window sticker when you need it? A pic of my cap would have to suffice!

Miami Pre-Season Game
According to the Miami FL website, the Pilots are playing them in a pre-season game on Friday, August 12 @ Merlo @ 7:00 pm.

That's interesting. A couple days ago the Portland state schedule showed they were playing Miami on the 12th.
It now shows the 14th.
I guess we will be treated to a preseason meet.

Re: 2011 schedule
Just got an answer from our Ticket Manager>>>
It is true that we will be playing the University of Miami on August 12th. This game is an exhibition game, and will not be open to the general public, which is why it does not appear on our schedule.
However, this game will be open to season ticket holders, as it is going to be the pickup date for season ticket holders. We were going to announce that next week. We wanted to keep this event exclusive to season ticket holders, as a benefit of being a season ticket holder...another reason we didn't announce it on our schedule.
Thanks,
Dave Taylor

Hmm, I'm wondering if there will be eats for season ticket holders, as there occasionally has been in past years. If not, tailgate anyone?

Re: 2011 schedule
Two weeks from tomorrow!!!
Just a tad bit of info on Miami.
The Hurricanes are starting out with a new coach, Tom Anagnost, who coached Central Michigan to a 40-12-7 record in 4 seasons. He replaces Tricia Talaferro who, in 9 seasons at Miami, compiled a 77-85-14 record.
The 'Canes return 7 Seniors from last year's 10-8-1 season, 4 Juniors, 8 Sophs, and bring on 4 Frosh this year.
UP will not be fully "manned" for the game, so it should be a competitive match. As for Gnarly's post about GK, we'll maybe get the chance to get an answer in this game if someone other than Nichole starts at GK.
I'm pumped....GO PILOTS!!!

NCAA Game by Game Stats
For those of you who don't lurk over on BigSoccer:
The NCAA now has opened up webpages with game by game results. Here is a link for the upcoming season:
http://stats.ncaa.org/team/inst_team_list?academic_year=2012&conf_id=-1&division=1&sport_code=WSO
The link should take you to the 2011 "Available Teams" page. That page lists all the teams that are treated statistically as playing Division I this year. (Warning: The page still includes Centenary, which will not be playing Division I this year. Also, it does not include the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Omaha will not be included this year, as it is in its first year of transition to Division I and during the first year of transition, a team's stats do not count for Division I purposes -- RPI or otherwise.) If you click on a team's name, the system will take you to that team's page. The team page includes a team roster and the team's schedule. I assume that game results will be included as games are played and teams enter the game scores into the NCAA system.
The NCAA's score reporting system is a "double entry" system in which each team is supposed to enter its schedule and game results. Some teams have not yet entered their schedules into the system. If a team has not entered its schedule into the system, then no schedule will show up on its team page. I haven't seen the NCAA's instructions sent to teams this year, but if they follow the same pattern as last year, teams have until their first game or the first Monday in September to enter their schedules into the system, whichever is first. If two teams enter inconsistent schedules or game results, I believe the system "red flags" the inconsistent entry, which is a signal to the teams and the NCAA staff that there is an inconsistency that needs to be resolved.
On the team page's roster, some of the player names are links. By clicking on the link, you can see the player's overall stats for last year and, as the current season progresses, the player's stats for the current season.
On the "Available Teams" page, there is a "Scoreboard" tab to click on, which takes you to a schedule of either today's games or, if there are no games today, to a schedule of games on the next day on which games are scheduled. I assume that, as games are played and teams enter their results, this will show the game results. Warning: This page does not indicate the site locations of the games. I believe the top listed team for a game is the away team and the bottom team is the home team. However, for neutral site games there is no way to know, from this page, that the sites are neutral. You would have to go to the teams' team pages to know if the games are at neutral sites.
These data are the "official data" for NCAA purposes. This is a giant step up for the NCAA, for which they should be commended.

Re: 2011 schedule
It's good that the NCAA is finally getting a grasp on this. What does this do for the status of the SIS site and GoCollegeSoccer? They were both at some point the "Official" reporting sites. First SIS, and then the disaster with the GCS attempt at taking over. Are they to be forgotten altogether?

I think the NCAA now pretty much is doing what SIS and GCS were doing. SIS has the game times, which I believe is about the only thing it has that the NCAA doesn't. I never have liked GCS, partly because they displaced SIS with the promise of being much better and in my opinion didn't deliver. In fact, when I went there in the past I thought they were worse.
In my opinion, there now are two major resources for schedule, game score, and stats information. The NCAA's pages are the official data and the best source for player stats. I haven't fully navigated their stats pages, but I think they also will have a way to see game stats. The nc-soccer pages are the best source for those interested in the RPI, teams' records over the past few years, and lots of other detailed info. The nc-soccer pages also, I'm sure, will have the most current game results, even quicker than the NCAA since the NCAA's pages are dependent on all the schools' SIDs entering their game results into the NCAA system in a timely way whereas those inputting data into the nc-soccer system track the games and enter the data almost as soon as the data is available on the schools' websites or via the various "game tracker" systems that are out there.
I frankly don't see any reason to look anywhere else unless you want to dissect the RPI or understand in detail how the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee makes its Tournament decisions, in which case my RPI for Division I Women's Soccer webpages are the place to go. Over the next six weeks or so, I'll be updating those pages to incorporate work I've done over the last year. But for day-to-day purposes, I'd use the NCAA's pages and the nc-soccer pages.
