Re: 2012 schedules
This year's Washington Husky Nike tournament is scheduled for August 31 and September 2. ONE of the visiting teams is Lasalle University out of Philly and the co-host of the tournament is the Pilots. The Pilots will play Lasalle on September 2.
This information is on Lasalle's website.

Wow, who was the genius who figured out that LaSalle should play in the tournament?
Quiz: Am I being serious or facetious? And why?
I'm willing to bet the the Geez knows the answer, but maybe we won't hear from him since he's watching soccer games in Argentina.
Re: 2012 schedules
Lasalle came out of nowhere and had a great season last year, had 14 wins in a row and undefeated in regular season and got a berth in the NCAA tourney.

Right on. From an RPI strength of schedule perspective last year, LaSalle was the 10th best team to have played.
Re: 2012 schedules
I don't know if the Garrett gave implied permission to relay parts of the 2012 schedule or not, so at this time I will just say that the Pilot women will be playing two perennial powers this season...one from the ACC on August 17 and one from the Midwest area on September 9.
I will try to do a little checking to see if I should mention the names of the schools, but what I CAN tell you is that you will want to make these two games IF THEY ARE TO BE AT MERLO...he didn't say where...or I didn't hear him say.
If anyone knows UP rules about repeating what the coaches say, please let me know...thanks.

Ummm... let me guess. The ACC foe: do they wear light blue? and the Midwest one... that is harder... can you give a mascot hint?

No specific rules, but it depends on the context. Was he speaking to a general audience, or talking to you personally?purple passion wrote:If anyone knows UP rules about repeating what the coaches say, please let me know...thanks.
I often speak with coaches, but would never post something we spoke of without asking their ok first. But if I'm at a group function, like Pilot Club, and something is said -- well, that's repeatable.
We've got more than one attorney on PN, but that's how I've always treated the issue.

Thanks DD. The announcement was made at the annual awards banquet in front of both teams, the coaches, staff, parents, and the alumni and ticket holders that attended. Garrett announced that the Pilots would play UNC on August 17 and University of Notre Dame on September 9, but either didn't say where, or I didn't hear it.
Incidently, the men will be playing, among others, Wisconsin, Northridge, Bakersfield, and Evansville.

Re: 2012 schedules
For those who have been Googling schedules, here's some you may want to not bother with. The following schools have their 2012 schedules posted and UP is NOT on them:
Marshall Minnesota Kentucky Seton Hall
Virginia Commonwealth Akron Fordham
University of Texas Dartmouth Texas A&M
University of St. Francis University of the Pacific
Ottawa University Washington State

Re: 2012 schedules
I see UC-Irvine on Ducks schedule for 8/31. Might they also play UP on same trip? We play Lasalle up in Seattle that same date so maybe not as they couldn't be 4th team UW Nike event.

Oregon and Oregon State have been having a tournament in recent years. Maybe OSU is their other opponent, if they have one?
Re: 2012 schedules
More schools have posted their 2012 schedules and you can cross these off your search list too:
Ole Miss.......Valparaiso........SW Baptist..........UTEP........S. Dakota State........West Virginia.......Florida State........Southern Mississippi.........Utah.........Western Carolina.........and Prairie View A&M.
This should narrow your searches.

Re: 2012 schedules
Shocker (to me) - Wazoo has their schedule up and NO Pilots on it.
Any chance they think they will be in the playoffs against us and don't want to ruin it by playing during the season.

With both the Pac 12 and the WCC adding teams, I have been expecting that the two teams would not play every year. I think the annual games actually hurt the Pilots, not the Huskies. In particular, they got to play a lot in front of large Merlo crowds so that the Pilots lost some of their home field advantage.
Plus, if I remember correctly, a couple of years ago, UW failed to schedule a Friday night game for themselves when they were playing the Pilots in a Sunday game. I think this violated the UW contract with UP, with UW having to pay a financial penalty. When that happened, I figured the annual games would stop as soon as the contract ran out. I may be wrong on the facts, and if so my theory obviously is incorrect. Maybe the Geez has some insight.
Re: 2012 schedules
The way I heard it, we had the right to cancel the game if they didn't play a Friday game and would only then get a settlement under the contract. That would of course have left UP fans with no Sunday game to watch, and I have no idea if the revenue would have been enough to cover revenue from playing the game.
It struck me as a not well written contract on our part. The way to solve the problem would be to simply play the game as the first game of the weekend. Both teams did what was in their best interests, and UW didn't get a win out of the deal.
I think the picture for non-conference games has changed with both conferences expanding ( I don't think that is over with) and with the resurgence of OSU, we have another in-state rivalry growing. I would imagine we will play them at least as as often as we play UW.
The truth is that I don't think we can put together a schedule ignoring the four PAC12 teams in the NW, but we can no longer afford to save one slot exclusively for the Huskies, and I don't think they can save a slot for us any longer, so I think we will still play each other, just not as often.
As to not playing each other because we might see each other in the tournament, I don't think that carries much weight. The reality is that under the new playoff system, we almost certainly face NW teams in the first and second or third rounds if they are in the tournament. To win a tournament, you need to be good enough to beat whoever the NCAA puts in front of you. If UW is any good in any one year and we didn't play them we would play another team just as good or better. With the current seeding system, we seem almost guaranteed to host a game against them, considering the PAC12 strength, and even if we had to play up there, we could pretty mush make that a home game just as we did with the beavers.

Re: 2012 schedules
Wazoo (WSU) is the Cougars...the Huskies (UW) haven't posted the 2012 schedule yet.
We DO play UO Ducks on August 24 at Merlo at 7pm - Duck schedule is out, so I fully expect the other PAC 12 teams to start posting this week.
Neither ND nor UNC have posted their schedules yet, so I still don't know if either are home or away.
