Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
The word "good" works, even natural or superior, and does not imply hucksterism.
I remain skeptical of any description which alludes to perfection, no matter how determined the pursuit of a goal may be.
Coaches, players and posters alike remain imperfect, as does their fit, or so I would think.
But we do like a staff that evaluates players on their merits and does not depend on other offers counted to determine when an offer is made.

This poor kid. He is the only recruit we will be able to talk about for the next year and a half.
I wonder how he will deal with the pressure....

Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
Well, as we all know, if there's to be any pressure it will probalby come on November 14 when he actually has the opportunity to put his name on the dotted line of his LOI.Geezaldinho wrote:This poor kid. He is the only recruit we will be able to talk about for the next year and a half.

A look at the NCAA calendar shows today is the first day of the recruiting period that runs through November 11. This is the period that our coaching staff will be in the schools talking about the future of Pilots basketball.
If Derrick is the only to leave the program next May, and assuming our friend Alex signs his LOI, Rev will be watching and talking to high school juniors and sophomores. In May, 2014 we lose Tanner, Korey, Ryan, and walk-on Taylor.

From Rev last night:
Good day recruiting in Rose City. Now boarding a plane for the East Coast. Going to be a very busy Sept but lots of great stuff going.

Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
Let's see, the program is limited to 1 scholarship recruit for 2013, and 1 player has already publicly accepted a scholarship from the Pilots for 2013, leaving the Pilot staff with no scholarships to offer, or so simple logic would suggest. Yet the fearless leader is out and about having "good day(s)" recruiting right here in the Rose City and then jets off to recruit some more on the East coast despite the limitation on scholarships. Either the Pilots are really working the 2014 recruits or there is something the average rabid fan posting here does not know about scholarship availability in 2013.
I am beginning to wonder if this much recruiting activity suggests the pressure on Mr. Wintering alone as the subject of our discussions might be alleviated soon.

Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
At this time last year we must have been recruiting Wintering, some 18 months before his high school graduation. So it only makes sense that the staff is now scouting and recruiting those set to graduate from high school in June '14. If there are no early departures, we'll have three scholarships to offer.

Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
According to "sources," UP paid a visit to Bloomington, Indiana a week ago and made an offer to 6'3" combo guard, Grant Sims, class of 2014.
Sims apparently has offers from UP, Kennesaw State, and Miami (OH). Showing interest at the moment are Xavier, Butler, Indiana St., Valparaiso, and Toledo.
A long way to go...chances are we'll not sign him, but it's always fun to speculate.

Re: Alec Wintering to Portland
According to ESPN:
We are also considering Damontrae Jefferson for the class of 2014, but we have not made an offer.
And, from 2015, we have made an offer to Kendall Small. He has interest of schools like Gonzaga, Pepperdine, USF, ASU, Arizona, USC, UW, and Wazzu.
Again, it is fun to speculate.

If Alec Wintering is to sign a National Letter of Intent with Pilots during the early signing period, his window begins tomorrow (Wednesday) and runs through next Wednesday.
Fingers crossed, but all indications I've seen show he's ready to put pen to paper as expected.

From the Charlotte Observer this morning:
Alec Wintering had a memorable high school basketball season debut at home against Durham Mount Zion.
Wintering, a 5-foot-9 senior guard committed to Portland, scored 34 points in an 82-72 victory. Wintering had five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win for United Faith, which has a huge game Saturday night at home against Kennedy Charter.

@CoachReveno
The NLI has arrived! Love the ritual of waiting by fax and glad to have it be official. Now just need compliance approval to talk about it.
