Saw where UO is playing at least one WCC school this coming season....BYU will travel to Eugene.
Should be a good game.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
Many preseason polls are picking Kentucky #1 and Michigan State #2 in the country…..now, this is only an unconfirmed RUMOR, but someone who is in no way connected with UP told me today they think UP is scheduled to travel to East Lansing this coming season…..
I can think of only one reason to travel to East Lansing, especially in November. IF the Pilots play at MSU I guess it would be fine if there is money and RPI advantages for UP, but I see NO advantage for MSU.
This rumor could be completely false, and I don’t usually speculate on rumors, but because the PN board has been so DEAD lately, it would seem we need a little something to rile up the regulars.
(Because I got the Voldy Gerun speculation correct, I guess I can be wrong ONCE and still be batting .500).

.333 is still a star level batting average and .250 might keep you in the starting lineup depending on your other skills. You should be able to get a couple wrong.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
The way Rev and his staff have scheduled it wouldn't really surprise me. Things can definitely backfire, as they did two seasons ago, when the schedule was so tough that the team's confidence struggled. But in the right season, a tough schedule could give the team opportunity for key wins that could be the difference between NCAA and NIT. I like it, it puts us on a big stage and hopefully grants us some exposure, and if we are competitive/win a game here and there that can be huge. Furthermore, that mega Phil Knight Birthday Tournament isn't too far off, and while we far and away the biggest longshots, continuing to schedule like we are will prepare our team for the competition.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
Viva Las Vegas….OK, another rumor about the schedule.
My source in Milwaukee says it would appear the Bradley Braves will get a chance to avenge their 57-55 loss to the Pilots in Las Vegas last year by returning to Las Vegas, this time at the South Point Hotel and Casino (and Arena) on Dec 20 or 21.
Apparently Bradley, UP, Pacific, and another team will play back-to-back games on those two days.
I believe the South Point arena has less than 5,000 permanent seats, and it's better known for hosting equestrian events and the like, but as an added incentive to blacksheep to return to Las Vegas again this year, it does have 64 lanes of bowling,

Vegassss!
After missing both events there last season, I look forward to a couple returns this year... most importantly, do they serve beer by the bucket?!

So the four teams in this....what is it, an exempt tournament?
1) An established WCC team (Portland)
2) An established MVC team (Bradley)
3) A brand-new WCC team (Pacific)
4) ?
The logical pattern would be that team #4 is a brand-new MVC team...oh, and hey, there is one! The Loyola Ramblers just joined the Valley.
Damn I'm good.

Can't we kick Bradley out and get another 'P' team? How about Penn? That would be 2 from the Ivy, 2 from the WCC.

Well, I tried...there should be about 11 NC dates this year. Including MSU and OSU speculation there's now five opponents on the schedule.DoubleDipper wrote:The fourth team is Princeton!
Bradley (Vegas)
Michigan State (away)
Oregon State (?)
Portland State (away)
Princeton (Vegas)
Unclosed possible home and homes from last year -
Idaho State (away)
Montana State (home)
UNLV (away)
Assuming the New Mexico and UTPA games were one-offs, that leaves about 3 dates left if the ISU, MSU and UNLV games all happen. I'll guess random non-D1 school at home, and UC-something/Cal State-something and Seattle to finish out the sched.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
I'd love to see the Pilots schedule another series with UW. Romar likes to maintain a recruiting presence in Portland, and it's good for UW alumni relations to have a game in PDX every so often. Maybe the Huskies are wary now, after losing at Chiles a few years ago.
My first UP game was in the late 90's against UW. The Huskies, coached by Bob Bender, won it at the buzzer on a long inbounds pass and layup by Todd MacCulloch. I went to the game with my dad as Huskies fans, and we've gone back to the Chiles Center often ever since to root for the Pilots.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
Excellent --- your story exemplifies exactly what UP's AD, Scott Leykam, is trying to do now…..make UP Basketball a FAMILY oriented experience that will start generations of families coming back to the Chiles Center on a regular basis.NoPoNeighbor wrote:My first UP game was in the late 90's against UW. There are families like yours, NPN, that began coming to the Chiles Center back in the 80's, but somehow the FAMILY emphasis was lost and needed to be rekindled.
Some of us take winning and losing very seriously, but we should also remember the entertainment value and good family memories UP Sports can provide.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
It’s not often that a small school gets the opportunity to play against a legendary basketball coach with a program that is considered to be one of the best in the nation. But UP did it for three years against John Calipari and his Kentucky team; two of those games in Rupp Arena….DoubleDipper wrote:Many preseason polls are picking Kentucky #1 and Michigan State #2 in the country…..now, this is only an unconfirmed RUMOR, but someone who is in no way connected with UP told me today they think UP is scheduled to travel to East Lansing this coming season…..
….and this year it happens again, UP will travel to East Lansing for a game against the legendary Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans….the team that is picked to win the Big Ten Conference title this year and compete for the National Championship with UK.
The game is scheduled for Monday November 18, and I have no idea if this game is a home-and-home, but it doesn’t really matter. For UP to have a coach and AD who have both the boldness and ability to pull off such a match that could mean so much for UP, but so very little for MSU, is really a tribute to both Coach Reveno and AD Leykam.
East Coast and Midwest Fans, I believe this game against MSU will be the ONLY game UP will play out of the Pacific Time Zone this season….until the NCAA Tournament....

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
From CBS Sports today:
EARLY GUESS AT THE TOP FIVE IN THE LEAGUE
• 1. Michigan State
• 2. Michigan
• 3. Ohio State
• 4. Wisconsin
• 5. Indiana
EARLY GUESS AT THE ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
• G: Aaron Craft (Ohio State)
• G: Gary Harris (Michigan State)
• F: Glenn Robinson III (Michigan)
• F: Adreian Payne (Michigan State)
• F: Mitch McGary (Michigan)
Tom Izzo is on record saying his Spartans are having the "best summer" they've ever had. That's encouraging for a national-title contender.
There's no mention of the Spartans "having" to take on the tough Pilots....

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
This is pretty sweet that this was put together by the U--no small task I am sure.
I just looked on a map, and East Lansing is not really close to anything other than plain ol' Lansing, MI. I suppose one could fly into Detroit and drive west... it is not terribly far from our friends in South Bend, either...

Ha-ha, you’re right; Xubi, Bobby, and Alec will find the whole D-1 thing an eye-opener, especially against Big Ten power, Michigan State.NoPoNeighbor wrote:Welcome to D-I, Wintering, Aitor, and Sharp!
Voldy, on the other hand, is actually the most experienced player on the UP roster against Big Ten schools. Of his total of 33 minutes of D-1 ball, eight minutes were against Michigan and 12 against Purdue.

Re: 2013-14 Schedule
Out of 8 confirmed or presumed games on the non-conference docket, we've got 1 at home, 1 unknown, and 6 out of town (either true road games or in Vegas). This is starting to shape up like the non-conference schedule 2 years ago, when we had very few home games. Here's hoping the remaining slots in the schedule are filled with games at the Chiles Center.DeanMurdoch wrote:Including MSU and OSU speculation there's now five opponents on the schedule.

According to Reveno on Twitter, you can add UC Davis at home (Nov 8}. The Oregon State game is indeed away (Nov 13) which leads into the MSU away game on Nov 18 as scooped by DoubleDipper.
Yeah, home schedule does seem a little light as it stands. UC Davis confirmed and probably three other home dates (possibly including Montana State).
