Yeah, but we started out 1/7 from three, and shooting 40% from the line to start, again. I guess we are going to have to live with that we need to warm up.
Run a scrimmage before the game?

It went from down 11 - 19, to up 40 - 21, so yes, the run was 31 to 2. Amazing.Geezaldinho wrote:That went pretty well.Terry Cahill wrote:Did...did the Pilots just go on a 23-0 run? Or am I seeing things?
To be fair, except for 2 free throws, it was more like 31 points. They were cold, cold cold.
As amazing, was that the Pilots never let the Lions make a 2nd half run. They kept the lead and built it to a 30 point gap (80 - 50) with 5 minutes to go.

One thing I like about tonight is we had 10 guys in double digit minutes, nobody played more than 24 minutes, and everybody had a positive +/-
Two more time outs called from the bench tonight. Coach Boeheim needs to move to this conference.

Well that was a big win! And like up7587 said, we didn't let them make a run in the second half (which is notable because the Pilots are notoriously bad at protecting leads).
My prediction of a Barreno double-double wasn't far off. Just as important was that Ray stayed out of foul trouble. 8 points, 9 rebounds in 16 minutes. Well done!
Pepperdine will be a much stiffer test on Wednesday. Looking forward to it!

The best team UP has beat this season (per KenPom) is Sacramento State, #196.
Pepperdine is #114. The Pilots are currently #199.

Game day!! This is a game with contrasting style of play. Pepperdine wants to play at a slower pace while we want to play more up tempo.
I expect this to be a close game. Hopefully the pilots have plenty of energy being the 4th game in 6 days.
I am also looking forward to this being the last game in the Chiles Center for Stacy Davis. I imagine Gabe will start out guarding him. He has been a tough match up for us.

With 12 players averaging 10 or more minutes, and nobody averaging more than 30 minutes per game, Pilots should be able to keep fresh legs in the game. I only see 3 instances of a player DNP-CD (not counting Xavier); Rev is using everybody every game.
Stacy Davis is their leading rebounder, by a wide margin. Leading scorer, shot blocker, most minutes played, and has taken and made the most 3P shots. He's shooting 42% overall, and 53% on 3Ps. He played 37 minutes against GU. Need to make him run. And block him out.

I just scouted PU against GU....PU is a much better team than LMU is....especially because of their pace of play, defense, and the aforementioned Stacy Davis. PU was picked to finish 3rd in the WCC....LMU was picked to finish last!
The LMU coach is known for his defense prowess, but it was ridiculous how many open shots UP got on Monday night....let's hope that dribble-drive/kick it back out works again tonight against Marty Wilson's team, but we shouldn't expect 14 3-pointers.
(The Las Vegas line has been fluctuating, but it is currently showing PU by 3 over the Pilots with a u/o of 140.5).
Game time 6PM, Pilot Club and pasta pregame in the Pilot House only, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPNU

Huge win.
Alex was a beast.
The team Took better shots, out rebounded, more assists. Held a high scoring team to 38% shooting.pretty much every category.
Even free throw defense was great.
Pretty much outplayed the waves across the board.
Time to re-assess that Rev is playing too many players. 10 players with more than 10 minutes.

All the kevetching about the coaching and now this jewel of a performance by the team, and that after another win on Monday . . .Reveno did not often sub out the star of the attraction, one AleC Wintering. Tense game, tough, athletic opponent and an enjoyable outcome.
I am not sure when the last time we had an equally dominant performance by one of our guards. Outstanding Alec.
Go Pilots.

Not sure, but while trying to find out, Darwin Cook averaged 33.8 over 109 games.
Stohl did score 33 against USF on 10 threes...
Nice to see Pressley do so well with his dad in the audience. Rev should pay the guy to sit in that seat.

Re: WCC Play Begins - LMU Monday at 6/Pepperdine Wednesday at 6
First game for me in a year (but really more like two years). I was REALLY impressed with everything. To my eye, as a former student worker in the department, a lot has improved.
Pilot House Pub: wow. Good food, reasonably priced beer, and a cool atmosphere. That was spectacular. I'm glad I made the time to see it. Probably the highlight of my night to be honest.
Game: Pilots put on a shooting show. Still managed to make my heart pound at the end, as is tradition, but they got the 'W' and I am satisfied. I still like and support Coach Reveno. A lot of freshmen players with a lot of upside in the future if we can hold on to them. I have several thoughts on each individual player, but I will stash those. These new fouls and rules really slow the game down to an almost miserable pace.
Crowd: More people than I expected. A bit quiet at times, but I am happy that the butts were in the seats.
Video Board: Much better graphics and displays. MUCH, much better. That thing was such a pain to work with.
If this is my only Pilot home game for the next year or more then I am quite happy with my experience. This program is on the up and up. Believe it.

Favorite play of the game. Alec posting up a guy about a foot taller, getting the score and the foul.
How did Wave announcers get to do the game?

Re: WCC Play Begins - LMU Monday at 6/Pepperdine Wednesday at 6
With 10 minutes to go, Todd tipped in a rebound for an 18 point lead. Pilots missed their next 6 shots, missed 2 FTs, made 2 FTs, had 3 fouls and 2 TOs, and in 4 minutes Pepperdine scored 14 points to make it a 6 point margin.
Fortunately, Alec made 11 of the Pilot's 15 points over the last 6 minutes, and PU never got closer than that. Over that last 6 minutes, the only other points were 4 FTs (and some more misses). Sure would like to see some other players step up and score baskets. Alec was the only player to score any baskets after Jason's tip-in.

Most points in one game by a Pilot since Chivo Anderson dropped 35 one time during the 1996-97 season.
Edit: Did some more digging, found out that Chivo's 35 was against Pacific Lutheran. So Wintering's 34 is the most by a Pilot against Div I competition since Matt Houle's school-record 43-point outing against USF in 1993.

I missed several chunks of the game on TV, even though Wintering was a beast, I think I was even more impressed with the progress of Barreno and Hartwich... both of whom played very tough! (Russell had a night to forget with some very silly fouls, but he has shown some potential so far this year.)
