Unlike the squads the US puts forward, this squad looks like development players
With only a core of experienced players.
Yes when the NBA and NBL are both in season, the Boomers will draw from developing players or those not currently committed in-season with pro teams. Much like USA would for an easy qualifier during the NBA season

Portland Pilots men’s basketball commit Andrew Stack?

This guy committed back in October and we all missed it. But apparently didn’t sign an LOI in the fall?

Committed, but will likely not sign...just like Chika.

He's being recognized on Senior Night, which I don't think would've been the case if he was staying?
Portland will look to secure its second five-game win streak of the season and improve to .500 in WCC play when the Pepperdine Waves visit for Senior Night on Saturday. The Pilots will recognize Jack Perry, Miles Turner, Wyatt Watson and team manager Andrew Bitrous with a pregame ceremony before the 5 p.m. tip

The 3 players and manager were recognized last night. Miles, Wyatt and Andrew were presented framed jerseys alongside their families. Jack was presented his alongside his EWU family, Tyler and Mike. Nice moment. The graduating students had some impressive degrees. I recall one was finance, another business, and a third engineering. Well done, gentlemen.

March 2nd is just a day away, and I am told other schools are making a late run at Gorosito.Dean Murdoch wrote:@Fdmathletics_ wrote:2022 3 Point guard Juansee Gorosito Will take an official visit to Southern Utah before making his college decision on March 2nd Stay tuned
Juansee was at the Pacific game on January 27 in which point guards Meadows and Harvey played effectively, but not brilliantly, and Milosevic was still injured.
Ideally, if Gorosito were to sign with UP he would sit one year and then compete for the starting position his second year...but as so much can happen between now and then, it probably is not worth the speculation.
Regardless of which school he signs with, I am hearing he will likely leave his prep school to play in Argentina's 2nd Division between now and the beginning of summer when he arrives at his chosen university.

Nice! This kid seems like a pretty good get based off his list of other offers. It feels dirty, but I can’t help but speculate on the ramifications of these commits. It seems like this kid would have to take either Yaru’s or Nikola’s scholarship. Thats just based off of roster construction, not necessarily their play. Also the money bag emoji in that tweet made me giggle a little bit. Has UP basketball reached the level of handing out bags?

Last I looked it was skyward of $68,000 a year.dholcombe wrote:. Tuition, room and board combined are up there these days.
It is obvious there will be some roster moves as guys feel squeezed out of playing time.bdaddy wrote:Nice! It seems like this kid would have to take either Yaru’s or Nikola’s scholarship. Thats just based off of roster construction, not necessarily their play.
Freshmen Harvey, Wilson, Milosevic, Svetozarevic, Nduka (non-scholarship), and Vucinic are eligible to enter the transfer portal at any time, and there is a better than 50/50 chance Perry will not return.
There are currently 12 players on scholarship, one short of the maximum, and there are 2 inbound scholarship freshmen, Dengdit and Gorosito.
IMO there will be plenty of room for Gorosito and Dengdit and perhaps one or two more inbound players, not necessarily freshmen, and again in my opinion, the team's biggest need is a veteran BIG man who can take up space, grab rebounds, distribute the ball...and still hit from long distance on occasion.

Juan Gorosito is with Central Argentino Olimpico de Ceres now.

Looks like he played 3 minutes in his first game. Ceres is one of the top teams in the league.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
A 6'3" PG. In 2020-21 he was starting, averaging 31 mpg and 6.7 ppg when he broke his leg. In 2021-22, he played 15 games for UNLV with no starts, averaged 13.7 minutes, 2.5 ppg and 1.5 assists. Last game played was 1/14/22 for 6 min against Fresno. Then he was out for non-Covid illness, then undisclosed reasons. Why is GU interested?

Re: 2022 Recruiting
GU needs players for the practice team? You have to fill the end of the bench too and sometimes you might get lucky or see something other schools don't. Chika for example ended up starting for us and a lot of people were probably asking why anyone was interested in him last off season.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
In the game against USD in the tournament, the TV announcers (the BYU guys) said that Legans had asked his team if anyone was leaving so that he would know who he needed to recruit. And the entire team said they are coming back.
Obviously that is second-hand info, and people can change their minds, but it’s a pretty bold thing for Legans to (presumably) tell the broadcasters. I hope it’s true… and stays true!

For the starting core, I hope so too, although not sure if the same can be said for the bench. Wilson got no playing time this year (unless he was technically redshirting).
Was going to save speculation until after all postseason play is done, but to start here is the total minutes of the other scholarship players this season minus the main starting core and Perry.
Vucinic: 230
Harvey: 208
Silveira: 199
Svetozarevic: 198
Milosevic: 58
Wilson: 0
Around the WCC, LMU is the only team to be hit by the transfer bug hard so far. Four players have already entered the portal. LMU has no incoming freshman so they'll probably very active in the portal.

Of the four guys in the portal, one played 75 total minutes, another 20 total minutes, and two had no time this year. They lose two key players, Scott and Quintana, and have 8 scholarship players on the roster for next year. The guys in the portal may have seen the writing on the wall, or may have had a discussion about their future prospects. LMU had the biggest fall from preseason expectations, so I am sure they will be looking for additional skill players.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
It can be tough to leave the guys you practice, live, and hang with, but sometimes the greener grass is just too compelling, and sometimes the coaches might suggest you'd get more playing time elsewhere.Sound Voltex wrote:Vucinic: 230

Of the 6 men listed, freshmen Vucinic, Silveira, and Milosevic, and junior Silveira could potentially sign contracts to play professional basketball in their home country at any time and there is also the homesickness factor. And all those listed, including freshmen Harvey and Wilson, but not including Silveira, could enter the portal at any time having not transferred before.
Because he redshirted, has 4 years of eligibility remaining, and will find it tough to find a place in the lineup, I expect Wilson to transfer.
