Serious? I would have figured the Pilots had won one in the CIT or something at some point.
This will be Portland's seventh postseason appearance since transitioning to Division I prior to the 1958-59 season. The Pilots have yet to win a game in postseason competition.

Re: 2022 Postseason
Thought we would have seen some speculating and guessing as to UP's opponent on Wednesday.
Seems like Seattle U. (23-9/14-4 WAC) would be a likely regional choice. If the Redhawks do come to the Chiles Center, you have to ask if the Pilots' TEAM can hold off the duo of Trammell and Tyson.
Both sophomores, they started every game this season with Trammell averaging over 17 a game and Tyson over 14 a game, but no opponent should overlook junior Grigsby who also started every game while averaging over 12 per game.
In Seattle's opening round loss to Abilene Christian in the WAC Tournament in the Orleans Arena, Trammell dropped 39 on the Wildcats.
Their NET is 129 and their KenPom is 134.
Remember, I am just speculating!! 'Cause no one else is....

Re: 2022 Postseason
I was looking at this a bit but my thought was that Seattle and Portland might both want to host first-round games so it could possibly be a later matchup should both teams win.
My guess, based on absolutely nothing, is Riverside.

Can anyone find a current web site for this tournament? Collegeinsider.com ends at the 2019 CIT. Everything else just leads me to individual schools announcing their participation.

Montana St, who beat the Pilots by 3 on a neutral site and by 2 in Bozeman, won the Big Sky regular season and tournament for an automatic bid.

GU is #1 seed in West Region, opening against Georgia State, the Sun Belt automatic qualifier. Duke is the #2 in the region. Another reason to root for the Zags besides the $s they bring with each game.
Arizona is the #1 seed in the South Region, despite having a new coach with no head coaching experience.

USF got a #10 seed. SMC got a #5 seed, playing in Portland on Thursday, against the winner of a play-in game between Wyoming and Indiana.
I believe GU also plays in Portland.
Three WCC schools make the tourney, along with three PAC-12 teams, AZ, USC and UCLA.

On Oct 22 the Pilots played Seattle U at the Chiles Center. Chris Austin scored 22 and the Pilots won 75 - 71. Moses Woods did not play in that game

Yeah, it is going to be great fun to see Mark Few's one-time heir-apparent and his 22-year assistant, Tommy Lloyd, take on the Zags in the National Championship game in his first year at UA.up7587 wrote:Arizona is the #1 seed in the South Region, despite having a new coach with no head coaching experience.

Coach Legan's EWU players the Groves brothers went to Oklahoma, which missed the NCAA tourney, and are now a #1 seed in the NIT.

BYU is a #2 seed in the NIT, playing Long Beach St. SCU is effectively a #5 seed playing former USF Coach Kyle Smith and WSU. Oregon is also in the NIT and playing a #4 seed Utah St.

The Basketball Classic has a website at thebasketballclassic.com.
Ordinarily, this is the spot where I’d make fun of you for not being able to find that. But we were so thankful you hooked Mrs Deaner up with tickets for the first two days in Vegas, I’m just gonna let it slide
(Cripes is that website bad… 404 errors every time you click a link)

Add to “possible opponent” list - Southern Utah (announced as playing in TBC).
Remove from “possible opponent” list - Northern Colorado, Cal Baptist (both off to CBI).

Re: 2022 Postseason
I’m told there won’t be a bracket for The Basketball Classic tournament released until Monday morning (even though organizers said it would be tonight).
South Alabama is hosting a game at 7 p.m. Wednesday, we do know that.
The rest? Your guess is as good as mine.

Re: 2022 Postseason
Not surprising, I think 2015 was the last time this tournament filled out the bracket with all 32 teams. Seems like they won’t get there this year either.
Meanwhile, in the CBI…

Looks like they have actually seeded the entire field? Seems loosely based on NET and the Pilots would have slotted right around the 9/10 area.

Re: 2022 Postseason
The GU coaching tree spreads.
In addition to Few and Tommy Lloyd at Arizona, there is Leon Rice at Boise St. Everyone knows Few's history and Lloyd's story. Rice has coached at Boise St. since 2010, with a .630 winning percentage. Prior to BSU, he assisted 11 years at GU, was head coach at Yakima Valley CC for one year, and assisted at YVCC, No. Colorado and Oregon.

Maybe TBC should just be a 16-team event. Looks like they have taken Kenpom #309 Maryland Eastern Shore and its 11-15 record which includes three non-D1 wins.

Just saw that Seattle is not participating in postseason.
UTEP just announced they're hosting Western Illinois.
UC San Diego appears to have been added to the field and it would make sense they'll start out at Fresno State (speculation).
That leaves Southern Utah to Portland? (speculation based on above speculation)
