A rare mention in the Oregonian/O-Live, written by Nick Daschel.

New Orleans: NET 264/KenPom 261

New Orleans tied for second place (behind Nicholls St.) in the Southland Conference with Southeastern Louisiana and then lost to SLC in their conference tournament after beating McNeese St.

Also a member of the Southland is Incarnate Word...a team UP struggled with in San Antonio during Thanksgiving.  IWU came in last in the conference.

Common opponents:
Incarnate Word - UNO beat lost to them 78-70 there and beat 84-57 a week later at home.  Pilots beat them 77-68 in a third game in 3 days, before Sjolund became a contributor.
VMI - UNO beat them 79-71 at home, while Pilots lost at home 90-82.

UNO's 18-13 record includes some Power 5 games: @Ole Miss, @Northwestern, @Texas A&M.  They were scheduled @Ohio St. but it was cancelled.

Actually, I think it was IWU that beat UNO, 78-70, in the first matchup in San Antonio.

It would appear guards Derek St. Hilaire, a grad-transfer from Jacksonville St. and Troy Green will have to be stopped, as together they average over 36ppg.

Mercifully, UNO has not shot the 3-ball very well to this point...just over 22%.

Eastern Washington at Fresno State is another CIT/TBC pairing that just dropped.

I'm assuming neither side would have had much interest in an EWU/UP matchup Wink

You mean it's tough to send a team across the country on fewer than 48 hours' notice??

How about Western Illinois having a 36-hour heads up to get from Macomb, IL to El Paso, TX? What the hell is a Leatherneck anyway?

I get that it's tough to get all this organized, but the exact same thing happened to the CIT in its last several years of existence. Every year a 32-team tournament was advertised but they haven't filled out an entire 32-team bracket since 2014-15.

Knock it down to 16 teams so you're not having to take literally anyone that wants to play (no offence to UMES and Coach Chavez) and start it on the weekend to give teams a decent chance to make travel plans. With full admission that I'm just popping off from behind a keyboard with no knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes, this really isn't rocket science and there's no reason to think it'll be any different next year.

I'm a little bit surprised the NCAA doesn't have any rules limiting post season participation to only .500 or better teams.

Apparently organizing a tournament where the contestants aren’t known until after the NCAA and NIT tournaments are selected and where every venue has to be bid on and the tournament seeding changes every round is tougher than they thought.

That’s not even the case in the NCAA tourney if you get an auto bid from winning a conference tournament, or by any other process the conference chooses.

The NCAA committee only has control of the at large bids.

The NCAA has plenty of weird rules. Must be .500 except on the main tournament wouldn't be the weirdest

In 1995 to 1997 UCF, Florida International , and Fairfield all made the tournament with 11-18 records (38%)
In the same time span San Jose State and Jackson state also danced with losing records.

Fairfield has twice made the tournament without a winning record.

Back in mid-November the Pilots hosted Alcorn State and won 62-58. Alcorn had just lost at WSU and Seattle U, and went to GU after the game in Portland to get blown out there. They lost 7 of the next 8 games after that, for a 1-11 record. Then their SWAC season started, and they won 14 of 18 games and the conference title. They made the finals of their conference tourney but missed the Big Dance with a loss to Texas Southern, a team they had beaten twice in conference play. So they were an AQ to the NIT. The magical turnaround ended at Texas A&M in their NIT first round game. But starting 1-11 in nonconference and going 14-4 in conference is amazing.

Sure the NCAA Tournament is fun, but it doesn't include wild plot twists like teams randomly withdrawing!

https://woffordterriers.com/news/2022/3/18/mens-basketball-mens-basketball-withdraws-from-the-basketball-classic.aspx

So as near as I can tell, there's 12 teams left in this thing. And with two games tomorrow, there will be 10 teams left over? I think?

Looking forward to a good game tomorrow night...you never know what to expect when the team has not played in two weeks.

In order to attend, I just sold my VERY good seat to tomorrow's NCAA sessions/matchups at the Moda Center, at cost, to a St. Mary's fan.

I was offered 50% more by someone wearing a Gonzaga shirt, but the woman wearing a St. Mary's jacket told me she was a St. Mary's alum, and because I attended St. Mary's games as a youth (anyone remember Tom Meschery?), she won me over.

I was disappointed there were no BYU fans I could snub...oh, that's right, they are not in the NCAA Tournament. Razz

Reminds me of the quote of the week from Vegas.

Mrs. Deaner: "Remind me again why there's no games on Sunday?"
Me: "It's because of BYU. They don't play on Sundays."
canadagael: "Yeah and they don't play on Mondays or Tuesdays either" Cool

Bit the bullet and threw down a few dollars for cashback reasons.

It's Sleik/Sobotka on the call with usual branding.

I really don't see why this couldn't have been on WCC Network/Stadium.

I gladly would have paid a couple bucks to watch the Pilots boat race New Orleans, but they didn't want my Canadian money.

Silveira's playing?? I guess I just assumed going into the portal meant he was done for the year. And he might be the first player I've ever seen go into the half with four fouls Very Happy
