2010 season
Here's a bit of news--
The TAMU team we see next year will be a bit different.
Kim Castleberry transfered to Texas Christian.
http://gofrogs.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/010710aab.html
If you recall, TopDrawer rated her the #1 recruit in the country before last season. She started I think the first ten games or so, then sat a lot in the later portions of the season.

Too bad she didn't see the light and transfer to UP. Maybe if we had beat them - -

Re: 2010 season
This thread was newer than "you're not going to like this" and seemed appropriate. UCLA has released their 2010 roster on the www.uclabruins.com website. Charney is not listed, so I assume she has to sit for a year.

Re: 2010 season
Can someone tell me why there are no freshman listed on UCLA's roster?
(Are all the freshman red-shirting?)
There are so many things I don't understand!!!

It took more than a couple of days, but the UCLA roster is up on their website now and the frosh and Charney are on this updated list.

Re: 2010 season
I noticed that the Pilots themselves have not yet posted their 2010 roster. Anyone know whether this is typical? Or, is there a possibility of more that we haven't heard yet?

I noticed that too. I think it's just because we are still in July. On the other hand, the roster for men's basketball seems to be up to date...

Re: 2010 season
Just a guess, but it is possible Garrett doesn't want non-Pilot fan readers of this or any other forum to see what position changes may have taken place until the last possible moment. Carrying that further, I suspect that what you see for PSU on the 20th may not look a lot like what you see after Labor Day for Penn State and Rutgers.

Re: 2010 season
The Pilots don't tend to keep a lot of secrets. They just go out and play their game.
The Portland State game will be different from the Penn State and Rutgers games, I'm certain, but it has more to do with letting the reserves get some playing time late in the game and less to do with hiding anything from future opponents.

Re: 2010 season
Given that so many players from opposing college teams play together on other teams ranging from clubs to national teams, there are few secrets. I agree: The Pilots do their thing (and do it very well) and force the other team to deal with it. It will be fun to see if any Pilots are "out of position" compared with where we spectators expect them to be.

Re: 2010 season
There was some kind of 3v3 tournament in Pioneer Square today and the Pilots had a tent set up with schedules, posters, etc.
After seeing that, now I really can't wait for the season to start.

When does soccer practice start? It is generally the same for all colleges?

Re: 2010 season
Soccer allows 21 countable practice units before the first allowable game ( the 20th, this year)
A practice unit is figured as follows:
The opening day of the term is Aug. 30th, according to the UP Calendar, so that doesn't really apply. Also, there are summer school classes until the 5th, and it would seem those days count double. I think that means today is the first permissible day.
If you go to the official school calendar at UP.EDU , and filter it for athletics, you will see " Soccer training" is on there. I'd better wax up the folding fur lined easy chair.
A practice unit is figured as follows:
Counting Practice Units
•One – each day beginning with opening day of term.
•One – during week of first scheduled contest, each day classes are not in session.
•Two – other days in the preseason practice period.
•Exclude Sundays.

Re: 2010 season
I am a little surprised at so many of my esteemed PN associates questions of when will the Pilots post the 2010 roster, and other info we all seem to see on other teams websites, but not the Pilots women.
I have been around Garrett and have had enough converstions with Pilot players over the years to know that he is as protective of his players and guarded with info about the team, as Bruce Wayne is about guarding his "Batman" alter ego.
This is all very predictable and you'll be seeing the same thing as long as Garrett is coach.
Please don't jump down my throat wearing rose-colored glasses. I love the Pilots and wear those glasses proudly myself. I also think Garrett is a brilliant coach and recruiter, and I wouldn't want anyone in the country other than he to coach "our team".
Just felt like some of you needed to understand that truth. And if you don't believe me, just ask any Pilot player, current or past. "That's just Garrett", is what they'll tell you, almost verbatim, every time.

Re: 2010 season
BTW, August camp for the Pilots usually starts about 14 - 15 days before the first match of the season.
I guess with that short a time frame, it means you better be in great shape and ready to play when you report.
Or perhaps you aren't going to be a Pilot for long. (Or your butt is glued to the bench permanently)!

The first day of practice was earlier this week, and there have been quite a few media stories... if I have time I'll try and link some of them up.
