Penn State/UP Fan - You must not be much of a Penn State fan then. See you Sunday!

Oh oh. It looks like at least one Portland based Penn State fan may get excommunicated from the Penn State Nation. I will say a Rosary tonight for your soul(s).

Nah - just kidding around. I'm very forgiving. I'm looking forward to the trip - got my tickets for both games and crossing my fingers the rest of the relatives do the same. Good luck to both teams!
How do you change the time on this website? It's only 7:30 on the East Coast.

Welcome, Nellie, to our website! I'm sure the Geez is happy to see that you're from New England.

Now of course I welcome all fans of opposing teams and hope they feel welcome to post hear and talk about college soccer, but... I can't help myself sometimes...

One of my all time favorite sports quotes; and one I've repeated as a coach.
The second sentence is equally brilliant: "I just put it where she isn't!"

Re: 2010 season
OK. I am back after being put in Penn State purgatory. Purplepetunia the Rosary helped. I always wondered why Pilot fans carry bead to the matches. Most of the time they are not needed...
Anyway, having spend 15 years and over 100 matches at Merlo watching the Pilots, I have a lot of Purple in my blood as well as Blue. Google tells me that mixture derives indigo. So I guess I am the Indigo Kid now (new screen name). Watch for this in a forum near you.

Aren't indigo kids the ones who have supposedly psychic abilities? Maybe you need some sort of exorcism?

Dear PS/UP Fan:
I am glad the rosary helped (it usually does).
And if the diaglogue between the Penn State fans is any indication, the Penn State/UP game should be an absolute blast!
(The soccer should be fun to watch too.)
Go in Peace,
Fr. Purple Pet

We are a fun group. I am sure it has nothing to do with being the #1 party school for years running. Glad we finally lost that distinction!!!

PS/UP Fan,
Oh man, I just had a flashback (an unfortunate by-product of growing up in the SF Bay area in the '60's)...
I used to work with four brothers who all graduated from the Univeristy of Scranton (a Jesuit school in PA), those guys could SERIOUSLY drink beer!
They used to hold some really fun St. Partick's Day parties too.
Wow.

Ah yes Scranton... only 40 miles from my home town..depressed coal mining town with more bars than any other businesses... we could make beer into more varieties of colors to make a different celebration. The beer was so bad there, we needed to change it some way...

So, Penn State/UP Fan, that 40 miles puts you from where?
Re: 2010 season
A small coal mining town named Shamokin. Near not much anything. But has the distinction of the largest slag heap, the first working anthracite mine tour and the first church lit by electric lights by Thomas Edison. Unfortunately it burned down due to faulty wiring (no fooling!!)

Re: 2010 season
I know the name Shamokin. One of my very first girlfriends was from PA coal country. I'll be darned if I can remember the name of the town. But that was back in the day, when the best soccer in PA was played by the semi-pro Philly Ukranians.
Re: 2010 season
I used to go Kayaking near Shamokin Dam. (secret - there is no Dam at Shamokin Dam unless you count that inflatable rubermaid thing near Sunbury)
The Ukranians clearly never played the Wolfe's Pub Dutchmen.
We were a bunch of ex-college guys who went around and took on all comers. That included most of the college and club teams in Central Pennsylvania (way before the NCAA Nazis took over College ball and put a stop to that) I think we won all our games for a couple of summers. Memory is a little cloudy on that. We always had a keg of Rolling Rock on the sidelines.

Re: 2010 season
PSU Fan/Indigo Kid - I'm just a couple of hours north of Scranton, and really SHOULD have gone to the UP-PSU game last year (there was also a PSU football game that weekend, and no motel rooms within a gazillion miles - shoulda gotten up at 4:00 or whatever and gone anyway).
For us steam railroad buffs, Scranton is Mecca!!!

Re: 2010 season
Coal Country has some very unusually names. There is also an unofficial Coal Speak language. http://www.coalregion.com/
Like "Jeet Yet" (Did you eat yet?) Waitress to customers - "Wattle yez have?" (what would you like to order?) Took 20 years to lose the last of my CoalSpeak.
When I lived back there, I had PSU football season tickets. Soccer was not a big sport then. Now on the left coast it is switched for me. Mostly soccer, very little football (in person at least).
