Re: 2010 season
South central PA shared a lot of the vocabulary from coal country, but there were a couple of differences. Instead of a waitress asking "jeet yet? She might ask "yuns need waited on?"
"To" and "at" were interchangeable. "He works to the Rubbermaid" (plant) would be a typical sentence construct.
I worked as a carpenter in my yoot there, and I learned what a summer beam was, where the barge board is located (not on a barge) and was once asked to go up and " cork the spashing on the chimbley"
For those of you in the NW who speak normal English, a toot ( rhymes with book and spelled tote) is a sack, ( shopping bag in the rest of the universe) "dear" is "spendy", and a "soder" is a "pop" ( so is a phosphate)
You might trek a crost New Jersey to go to The shore on the weekend ( not the coast - the beach in NY)
Did they have Straw hat day in coal country?

Re: 2010 season
No Straw Hat day, but did have Coal Pioneer Day... There are still some under ground fires in coal seams in the hills above Shamokin that burn and give off noxious gases....

Re: 2010 season
I went to school with a couple of guys who were from that part of the country. Both their fathers were coal miners and both died young ... black lung. (A tough way to make a living and raise a family.)
Both my friends were really good guys, by the way. (Very smart and very hard working mechanical engineers.)

If I may be so bold as to interrupt the PA love fest, a reminder that there is an earlier PSU game -- Portland State U -- a week from tonight. You may now return to the previous digression.

Re: 2010 season
And so Pilots 2010 week number one begins.
We can and will speculate all year long. But Friday night, it all begins for real.
The starting line-up will be revealing. The rotation of players, and particularly freshman players, will be very interesting.
Hope you folks at the game can give us some nice visual descriptions of the proceedings. (Personally, I want to be there badly - and I still might change my mind at the last minute and go. I get so excited on game day. But that's my personal problem...I get too excited and that ain't good for an old geezer like me.)
(Sorry Geez, but it fit, so I used it. Send me a royalty bill and you'll have a check in the mail by December.)

Don't sweat it. I'm letting geezer go open source. That seems to be the trend nowadays.

I digress again...sorry. One last Pennsylvania thing. Youtube about Pennsylvania. About 3/4 of the way there is a shot of Shamokin and the "Largest Slag Heap". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhFHqNKnfes

Re: 2010 season
Haha funny video. Nice shot at the end of the Centralia coal mine fire, which has been burning since 1962 with no signs of going out.
Some other results:
TAMU 3:0 Rice... Doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.
We don't play either team in the regular season, but I found the
Notre Dame 1:4 Virginia result in their scrimmage surprising, considering the hoopla about the leprechauns this year.

Re: 2010 season
That Virginia- ND score surpised me also. But after what the Cavaliers did to Penn State in the NCAAs last year, maybe I should not be surprised. With PSU leading 2-0 at half, Virginia score 5 times in the 2nd.

Re: 2010 season
OK State beat Oral Roberts 1:0
The only surprise there is the score.

Let's hope they are in the post-season team too; with Keelin and a couple of others!
