I take it this scuttles the plans for the "Me so Thorny" shirt down the road... And I certainly hope they weren't calling their "woman of the match" a "thorn star" (OK I'll stop. Anything to get out of studying.)

Ah, jeez…thank god Mrs. DD ordered one before they were pulled...there is just so much BS in the world; why don't we just compound the situation by taking away good natured humor too!!! Evil or Very Mad

But on a positive note, I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said: “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”

All jokes aside, it really does diminish the fact that they have 2 of the best strikers in the world playing on their team... Cheap publicity stunts aren't really necessary. I don't know, seems the more edgy joke related shirts should be fan based, not from the actual organization.

I think that's a good way to think about it. Make it a fan joke if the fans want to do it, but not an organization joke.

Kendall is off to a great start. In their first game, the Sky Blue beat st. john's 5-0 with Kendall getting two of the tally.

Sky Blue stops St. John's, 5-0, in pre-season match

QUEENS, N.Y. -- In its first outing as a new team, the Sky Blue FC recorded a 5-0 pre-season win at St. John's University at Belson Stadium on Saturday.

In a 4-3-3 formation, Sky Blue FC started the game, controlling most of the possession and working the ball across the back and through the midfield.

St. John's was disciplined in its defensive effort but the players could only hold off the attack for so long.

In the 15th minute, Kelley O'Hara put the first goal away off a nice combination from the wing and an assist from Danesha Adams.

In the 40th minute, Kendall Johnson was fouled in the penalty area as she got to the end line. She converted the penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

Entering the second half, Ashley Baker was the first Sky Blue substitute of what would be a steady rotation of players. Becky Kaplan, Danielle Schulmann, Karen Gurnon and Rachel Breton all saw action.

Johnson struck again in the 28th minute as she cut inside and hit a well-placed ball, an 18-yard right-footed shot into the lower corner of the net for a 3-0 advantage.

Katy Frierson tacked on two more goals.

Sky Blue FC will play the Boston Breakers in tat first pre-season game at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass. on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. ET. Admission is free.

the stadium is interesting. It's a Turf field on top of a parking garage on the campus in Queens. This is one of the first, but they are popping up all over New York and other Urban areas.

Not like Merlo, though.

Sky blue played again today in freezing weather in Boston. Final score SBFC 3:2 Breakers.

Kendall didn't score, but Sophie got the game winner.

Thanks. As reported, the SBFC -breakers match ended 3-2 with Sophie getting the game winner.

Also not mentioned is that Wshington will host UNC at 3:00 eastern on Saturday. There will be a live feed on the Spirit website. No link yet.

I've not paid attention to prior leagues but that sounds pretty impressive to me. Also means that stadium won't feel empty which would have been sad.
