I just looked at the NWSL site:

http://www.nwslsoccer.com/News/index_E.html

Amanda is the only college player to have scored on a pro team so far.

U Maryland is beating the Spirit 1:0 at halftime. The goal was an own goal in the 22nd minute.

Amanda still can claim the only college player to score on an NWSL team.

2:0 UMD in the 77th. This time a Maryland kid gets credit. No idea who.

maryland will probably be the first college team to beat an NWSL team.

<edit> it's final.

The WNY Team seems to be putting up big numbers against some decent college teams. The last one without some of their stars. They could be tough in this league.

Nice article on Bloomberg Business about whether the new league will have a chance to survive. The Portland model for the Thorns being under the same MLS management is mentioned.

I am pleased to see the new gear is much better looking than the sweaty gray shirts that they wore at UP. Appearance is secondary to quality of play and real football issues but these are decent looking shirts.

Well, the kits aren't the highlight, but they aren't what we will go to see.

It's the standard Nike "Hertha" kit. The Washington Spirit have the exact same kit.

Got an email about season tickets which included this:

The Portland Thorns FC take the field for the first time on Saturday, April 13 against FC Kansas City. Be sure to visit www.portlandthornsfc.com for a live stream starting at 5:35 p.m.

The first home game is the 21st. If you don't have season tickets, you might want to consider calling for tickets now. The crowd is expected to be huge.

The Thorns announce the radio and web streaming arrangements

The broadcast team will be Anne Schatz and our own Angela Harrison!

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC announced today that all 11 of the club’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) home matches will be broadcast on Freedom 970 AM, with all 22 matches available via live web stream at www.portlandthornsfc.com.
All NWSL home teams will provide live streaming video of their matches, which will be made available on www.portlandthornsfc.com for the club’s home and away games. All games at JELD-WEN Field will be streamed in high definition. On the road, the host team’s web stream will be provided.
Starting with Portland’s inaugural home match on April 21 against Seattle Reign FC, veteran sports broadcaster Ann Schatz will provide play-by-play with former University of Portland All-American goalkeeper Angela Harrison adding analysis as the broadcast team on Freedom 970 AM.
Schatz joins the Thorns FC broadcast team with more than 30 years of experience in the sports broadcasting field. After moving to the Rose City in 1989, Schatz worked at KOIN-TV before becoming the sideline reporter for Portland Trail Blazers basketball from 1999 until 2005. She turned her focus to the college ranks working with CBS Sports and, most recently, the Pac-12 Network calling women’s soccer, basketball and softball games. Originally from Omaha, Neb., Schatz played both basketball and softball at Creighton University, where she earned a degree in journalism and mass communications.
Harrison, a standout goalkeeper for the University of Portland from 1996-99, joins the Thorns FC broadcast team after three years as a radio analyst for the Pilots. Playing under the direction of Clive Charles, Harrison finished her collegiate career ranked sixth all-time in the program’s record books in both saves (132) and shutouts (24.5). A Soccer Buzz All-America selection in 1997, Harrison went on to win two USL W-League championships with the Boston Renegades in 2001 and 2002. She returned to Portland and was awarded an MBA from the University of Portland in 2005. In addition to broadcasting, Harrison has been a longtime youth soccer coach, developing numerous goalkeepers for the youth national team and college ranks. She currently serves as the director of operations for the Oregon Premier League.

Good for Angela, too bad she has to work with Anne Schatz. Anyone who watched the PAC 12 games she did on their network last season will be as amazed as me that anyone would hire her to do soccer broadcasts. Maybe she will do her homework and actually know something about soccer in this job.

1-1 draw in KC tonight. Fair result for both teams I thought. KC got theirs from Renae Cuellar in the 3rd off a defensive error. Foxhoven came on in the 64th, won a penalty in the 66th, and Sinclair beat Barnhart (as she has done before).

The Thorns had trouble getting the ball to Sinclair and Morgan most of the game. The first team hasn't had much time together and is showed in the missed passes and runs but they can work it out.

As you said, PPT, it was a fair result.

It was not a particularly exciting game, and it was obvious the Thorns need to spend more time together.

"Fantastic" and "Phenomenal" were inappropriately and excessively used by the commentators, but it was a solid game.

Not sure why KC couldn’t paint the turf for SOCCER…..$$$ I guess.

It's a multipurpose stadium, like Hillsboro. The KC announcers had their moments but Merritt asked NWSL fans to come back next Sunday and watch how the Thorns produce a broadcast. Wink

I thought that the Thorns midfield was the weak link. Edwards and Long had poor games, Long completed more passes to KC than to PTFC, and Angie WK had on off day.
