Apparently the order of the four round draft "was determined with assistance from a panel of experts and agreed upon by all eight clubs."

The panel ranked the strength of each club based on their allocated players, and conducted a weighted draw.....

Well, I guess its hard to argue with the Morgan/Sinclair forward combo being a pretty damn good haul in allocation...

@ALLIE_LONG: So thankful for the opportunity to play for @ThornsFC !! Thank you for the support, Truly humbled.

Apparently the signing has started, although the signing window doesn't open untill Monday.

A refresher course: long players for Penn State in 2005-2006, transferred to UNC in 2007.

Played with the Washington Freedom, The the Sky Blue FC, then went to Europe and played for Paris-St Germaine.

The amber brooks draft choice is interesting.

National champion and TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Year Amber Brooks has made a splash by signing with Germany’s Bayern Munich.
Brooks has starred for the North Carolina Tar Heels for the past four years, piling up accolades and building her reputation as a future star. The new women’s professional league (NWSL) was clearly an option for Brooks, but she instead chose to fulfill a dream of playing overseas.
Said Brooks:
“I am happy to finally announce that I have signed my first professional contract with Bayern Munich! Big thanks to (everyone) who helped make my dream a reality!”
The Germans were well aware of Brooks from her starring international role with the US Soccer program.
Said FCB coach Thomas Worle:
“We initially looked primarily in Europe for a new player, but on a recommendation I stepped up contact with Amber. I am glad that the US U23 Captain joins us now. Amber is combative, defensive multi-way player who loves to compete. I look forward to a talented, ambitious football player.”

is this really a choice that will make the thorns better? It looks more like a parachute for a UNC player in case she washes out in Europe.

Tom Sermani just announced the roster for the USWNT camp. Megan and Keelin are on the team.

http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Womens-National-Team/2013/01/Sermanni-Names-29-Player-Training-Camp-Roster.aspx

Interesting note that Tobin Heath has signed with Paris -st Germaine.

So neither UNC player has chosen to play for Cindy Cone, and the thorns lose an allocated player. The Thorns now have no signed midfielders.

It will be interesting to see if Portland gets the same $24k compensation from the league that Western NY got for not getting 3 USA allocated players.

German team FCR 2001 Duisburg, where Elli Reed signed a two year contract last summer, is facing insolvency and hasn't paid the players.

http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/frauen/bundesliga/580478/artikel_duisburg-steht-vor-dem-aus.html

Or the google translate version:

The coach bailed last month with some unspecified " personal disease".

It might be something as innocuous as needing the paycheck. Even the USWNT players probably aren't making big $, so when offered the opportunity to get paid, a la Megan, you take it.

That is my suspicion also. It has been stated a number of times that the league wants to keep costs as low as possible.

Interesting discussion on BigSoccer forum about this. If this is true about the salary for drafted players, that is not enough to live on. Players might need to stay with sponsor families... Shocked

Yeah, the residency players get the same they always have, which is in four tiers ranging from $24k to over $100k.

But the total salary cap thrown out by the ussf for players not in residency was a $200k per team Cap for the 11 players, or about $18k per player.

This is not the NBA.

$18K per player; that is almost exactly what a Private (E-1) makes starting out in the US Armed Forces today ($1,516.20 per month + benefits + various allowances).....so many options for young people. Shocked
