Re: Future Opponents' Results
A look at how the WCC is "trended" this weekend.....
BYU lost @ #43 Iowa St.
USD lost @ #122 S.F Austin
PU lost @ #299 Utah Valley in OT
SCU lost to #208 UCSB in OT
UP lost @ #104 WSU
GU beat #156 Pacific
LMU beat #285 PSU
SMC beat #186 Cal Poly
USF beat #139 Montana
By far the strongest surprises in the WCC have been USF and SCU. BYU's losses have been to very tough teams, and GU is looking like an Elite Eight team.....

CSU is tough again this year.pilotram wrote:CSU Rams 79, Evansville Purple Cobras 72.
They are 6-0, and if they can get by Colorado on Wednesday, they have a very good chance of going undefeated in preseason play.
KenPom ranks them #62....(UP is #230).

If the Zags get past the Illini on December 8 they may run the table. I'm not happy about it but the stars are aligned....

I perfectly happy with it; someone has to represent the WCC and someone has to fill the Chiles Center once per year.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Kentucky, a week after sliding from No. 3 to No. 8, fell completely out of The Associated Press' college basketball poll Monday, becoming the biggest single-week drop from the rankings since they were expanded to 25 teams in 1990.
Oh good. They won't be mad on Saturday.

I hope it wasn't Pliny.... You wouldn't be able to smell anything but hops for a month. (Then again, maybe that isn't such a bad thing.)

Shouldn't this board adopt a Portland beer to be obsessed with? All this devotion to Pliny the Elder just supports our Northern California WCC foes!

Chico is North of the south end of the Mt. Lassen massif watershed, which makes it technically (just barely) part of Cascadia. Close enough. It's only 70 miles away.
If it isn't, I'm leading an expedition to annex it for our greater glory.

Russian River Brewing is in Santa Rosa. Does that change things?

Nope. It was originally in Chico and that's where
Pliny was first brewed by Vinnie Ciluzo at Blind Pig.
Do I put your name down to lead a division? We leave the first Thursday in February, when the Younger goes in the kegs.
The Russian River doesn't even go through Santa Rosa. That's why we need to wrest it back.
( actually, vinnie brewered it in Temecula, but if we invaded there, the horses would be dead and the helicopters would run out of gas)

Does that mean you still consider Blitz/Henry Weinhardt's a Portland brew?

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I will admit to drinking A LOT of Henry's when it was brewed downtown... you could smell the brewery outside the bar, and taste it inside. Ah, those were good times...
As for the cheese, I prefer a nice emmental.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
There was a time, during the Dark Ages, that Blitz Weinhard was the ONLY local beer for UP students.PilotNut wrote:I will admit to drinking A LOT of Henry's when it was brewed downtown... you could smell the brewery outside the bar, and taste it inside. Ah, those were good times...
It was during that time when catapult operators were asked, "Can't you make it shoot farther?"
"No, I'm sorry. That's as far as it shoots” was the reply.
But then men did shoot further and craft beers were born….and UP students were saved.
IMO all nations should listen to Frank Zappa, who famously said:
"”You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline - it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer."
