Re: Future Opponents' Results
Very good games in the WCC today....all but UP's on TV.
SCU played GU very close this evening at home, and was down by only 4 with three minutes to go before finally succumbing 81-74. Olynyk scored 33 for the Bulldogs and Foster had 29 and Trasolini 19 for SCU.
USF gave BYU all they could handle in SF, but BYU finally prevailed 80-76 after trailing by 9 at the half. Carlino (22), Haws (22), and Zylstra (16) combined for 60 points for BYU; Dickerson and Doolin each had 22 for USF.
It wasn't as close in Moraga as SMC pulled away down the stretch, winning 74-61 over LMU. Matthew Dellavedova scored 17 for SMC and Anthony Ireland lead LMU with 16; Ashley Hamilton had 15.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Pilot's road to avoid the play-in game in Vegas just got a little tougher. Two teams that figure to be fighting to avoid the last place spots won tonight. LMU beat Santa Clara 84-80 for their first conference win. And USD beat USF 70-66, and is now 2-0. Plus, the USD win was in San Fran. That does drop USF to 0-3 in conference.
In other WCC action, BYU walloped Pepp by 25 points at home. And GU held home court against SMC, 83-78.

Matthew. Dellavedova.
Oh my goodness. SMC wins @ BYU, 70-69 on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from 35 feet. WOW!
One of the better games in recent WCC history.

Apparently Mom and Dad will be in Portland on Saturday....it will be a good chance for all of us to say, "G'day, how ya going?"

Re: Future Opponents' Results
GU loses a heart-breaker @Butler, with BU's game winning, buzzer-beating shot with 0.1 seconds left falls, after the Zags regained the lead with 4.6 seconds left, but turned the ball over (after a BU turnover). BU wins 64-63.
The inbounds play in question was pretty bad... like UP inbound play bad...

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Oh oh, what did UP score against SMC last Saturday? As I recall it was something like 38 points? Tonight Santa Clara limited Cal State U. Bakersfield to 36 points….CSUB had been averaging 66 ppg; UP averages almost 60.
The Pilots get to travel to SCU next Thursday.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Every game is important. But the Pilots need to focus on victories against LMU, USF and Pepp. We're 1-1 right now against that trio, and this next game is critical.DoubleDipper wrote:Oh oh, what did UP score against SMC last Saturday? I hope our game plan for Saint Mary's on offence isn't to stand around doing nothing.
Because USF did that for 30 minutes last night against SMC and almost ended up winning the damned thing anyway...so I'm assuming Coach Bennett will want to shut down that sort of thing for Saturday.

Why should we change our game plan now? It's worked so well for us all season.DeanMurdoch wrote:I hope our game plan for Saint Mary's on offence isn't to stand around doing nothing.

When you look at our turnover rate, I'm pretty sure you can't say we have been doing nothing.

Watched an excellent game in San Diego this evening.....USD led Gonzaga late, but ended up losing by 2 points after having the ball for the final shot, but not really gettng a shot off.
Johnny Dee had 21 for USD, but Olynyk, Bell, and Harris comibined for 46 for GU.

Good game...but not quite as good as the one I watched. Warner Pacific is #14 in NAIA D2 and Northwest U (in Kirkland) is #20. WPC is in 2nd place in the conference, NU is in 3rd. Warner's best three point shooter hit one at the buzzer to give them a 75-72 win. The gym was loud and Just the kind of game you hope for in that kind of matchup.

Can we get this guy to transfer to UP for next season? And maybe bring the loud gym environment with him?PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:Warner's best three point shooter hit one at the buzzer to give them a 75-72 win. The gym was loud and Just the kind of game you hope for in that kind of matchup.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
They get a loud gym because it's even smaller than Stott. It wouldn't even fit all our season ticket holders. If we want a loud gym we could always play in Howard Hall again (home court advantage if you know the dead spots).

There's an opportunity for many of us to get in a little scouting of LMU tonight at 7pm when USD visits LMU on RootTV.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Last Saturday USD took GU to the buzzer before losing by 2; tonight at LMU they go to OT and win on a length-of-the court drive for the winner on an acrobatic reverse layup with 0.2 seconds left on the clock…final 69-68.
There might have been a dozen students in the “Lions Roar” section….and no more than 500 total in attendance; regardless of what the box score might read. Anyone upset with the atmosphere at the Chiles Center these days should go to LMU for a game….it puts things in perspective a bit.
It's a good result for the Pilots....still an opportunity to avoid Wednesday in Las Vegas....barely.
Lions should be in a funk Thursday…..or really hungry; it’s up to their coach.

I was following that on Twitter. Sounds like Dee went down with an ankle injury. Not good for them if he's out for a while.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Yea, Johnny went down with about 9 minutes left in the game....strange, their trainer didn't have the ankle elevated or wrapped in ice, but it looked to be a low sprain, not the dreaded high ankle injury.PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:I was following that on Twitter. USD starts the WCC 4-0, then goes 0-4 before tonight's win....now they face BYU in San Diego.
