Future Opponents' Results
11/14/2012:
SCU 74, @St Louis 62
Utah Valley 49, @Wash St. 72
A nice win by SCU at SLU, even without Rick Majerus. SLU has 4 starters returning from last year's tourney team, and are picked to finish 2nd in the A-10. Kevin Foster scored 30 points, and broke Kurt Rambis' SCU career scoring record.

Doesn't involve the Pilots directly (but they're both a Pilot opponent's opponent and that counts in the RPI):
Sac St 74, Utah 71 in Salt Lake City. Yikes, Utes.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
A few comments after reviewing the box score of the last game...in my humble opinion:
1) We need to be able to put up more than 51 points in future games to be able to improve upon last year.
2) The shooting percentage and rebounding look good, and obviously Ryan Nicholas played well.
3) Kevin Bailey still needs to cut down on his turnovers as he led the team with 4. Overall, as a team we did better than last season though with only 14 turnovers for the game.
Good start!

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I wouldn't necessarily call it a battle between two religious institutions (even though that's what it is), but BYU and Notre Dame play today at 4PM PST in Brooklyn.
The game is broadcast on TruTV....51/751 in the Portland area.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I guess a turnover is a turnover, but in Kevin's case they were all from just not catching the pass before making a terrific athletic move to the basket. Three of the turnovers happened back-to-back-to-back to open the second half. The coaches had obviously diagrammed some plays to exploit an ISU weakness with Kevin designated to take the feed and drive......he began the drives before securing the ball. Ithink most of us are confident he'll be fine (eventually).onetouchfutbol wrote:A few comments after reviewing the box score of the last game...in my humble opinion:

He threw away at least one on an ill advised pass as well. At least 2 were failure to catch. Do not recall the 4th.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Future WCC opponent Pacific defeated SMC at Anaheim today, 76-66, in a bit of an eyebrow-lifter. Pacific lead throughout the game, and Dellavedova had a foul plus technical foul called on him late (to foul out) that put the nail in the coffin for the Gaels.
Pacific looked good...

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I watched the game, and Pacific's defeat of Xavier yesterday.....the Tigers are the real deal to this point; it will be fun to have yet another school elevate the level of play in the WCC next year.

Pacific is an athletic squad! And Gonzaga is DEEP. They've looked impressive the past couple of days against Clemson and Oklahoma.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
Eric Atkins scored 16 points to lead four Notre Dame players in double figures, as the unranked Fighting Irish upended No. 8 Kentucky, 64-50, on Thursday night.
Jerian Grant and Jack Cooley netted 13 points apiece and Cameron Biedscheid added 10 points off the bench for Notre Dame (7-1), which has won 41 of its last 42 games at home.
Julius Mays paced Kentucky (4-2) with 16 points, while Nerlens Noel chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats, who had won three straight since a Nov. 13 loss to Duke, but was playing its first true road game of the season.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
To put things in perspective a bit, Pepperdine, the team that is ranked just before or after UP in the WCC depending upon the poll, beat Montana St. in Bozeman tonight, 76-66.

Yikes. That does not bode well. Pepperdine also beat Wazzu in Malibu.DoubleDipper wrote:To put things in perspective a bit, Pepperdine, the team that is ranked just before or after UP in the WCC depending upon the poll, beat Montana St. in Bozeman tonight, 76-66.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I wouldn't put too much stock in the Bozeman result...that was clearly the low point of the season and the play's been much improved since then.
Pilots gave one up against Montana State. Time to take one back against Wazzu.

Man, I love your optimism, DM. I was about to pick the Cougs by 18, but now I'll have to reassess.DeanMurdoch wrote:I wouldn't put too much stock in the Bozeman result...that was clearly the low point of the season and the play's been much improved since then.

WSU could be vulnerable without a true PG and a lack of outside shooting, but they are just so big inside that UP will have to play the best they’ve played this year to win.
It would be nice if WSU were overlooking UP getting ready for its next game in Pullman against Gonzaga, but they’ve been very good at HOME. In WSU’s only road game this season, Pepperdine beat WSU in Malibu; there other two losses were at a neutral site, Kansas City. WSU plays 12 games in the state of Washington before finally heading to the Bay Area for the beginning of Pac-12 play…..it would sure be nice to break their home streak before Gonzaga does it on Wednesday.

Re: Future Opponents' Results
I just hope we play our best road game of the season. So far, @UNM was the best road performance. If we can top that one, I'll be happy. Also, it would be nice to do at least as well against WSU as Idaho did the other night.

Coach Reveno on Twitter:
I now feel bad for the Samford Bulldogs, who play at Kentucky on Tuesday.I will be honest...hearing of the Kentucky loss at Rupp, I quickly checked their schedule to make sure we weren't their next home opponent.
