LMU and USF head to overtime...

USF started out 0-9 from the charity stripe, and finished regulation at 7-17. Hmmm, those 10 points might have helped.

LMU does it again... LMU 61, USF 60, Final-OT.

LMU advances to meet #4 SCU at 6pm on Friday.

Oh, and USF ended up 8-19 on freethrows.

Give Ireland and Hamilton credit.

They got it done two days in a row.

Those 5 points might have helped? I usually figure 70% on free throws is reasonable which would be about 12/17. It's not reasonable to expect 100% every game. Still though free throws hurt us yesterday and USF today. One more win and LMU will have in the conference like us...

LMU should have won in regulation, but the refs let a mugging of Ireland go with LMU up 2 in the final 30 seconds, and USF got the loose ball and a breakaway to tie the game. It was justice that the Dons missed FTs and Cody D couldn't hit any shots at the end.

LMU eliminating USF took a good thing and a bad thing from the tournament.
The bad thing: Rex, we won't miss you.

The good thing: USF Spirit Squad, you will be missed.

I did the research for you, VPF, their are 10 elevators --- one for each of next year's 10 schools.

This year, UP has by far the most visible door!! Four of the doors are really not visible at all as we don't take those elevators to our rooms above the 9th floor.

Speaking of elevators---I just took the elevator ride with the entire traveling Pilots Dance Team (12 members) and their coach, Anna, after a 10 minute meeting with them in the lobby.

I told them how much the dance team means to the fans AND the basketball teams, and how they've really raised their game this year regarding routines, uniforms, yells, and numbers. They started with 17, and they finished with 17!

When I asked them what WE could do for them, their reply was unanimous---"Get the student section off their rear-ends and make some noise and cheer."

If you ever get the chance, take the time to thank and compliment the members of the dance team; you would not believe how much that means to them.

Final score: #9 LMU 60, #4 SCU 58!

LMU advances to play GU tomorrow at 6pm.

This is where the format rears its ugly head. Doesn't seem fair that LMU has to play its fourth game in as many days against allegedly the best team in the country.

And the best team being rested....

Although in most formats....the 9 team wouldn't get to play at all. They'd just seed the top 8 teams.

I think the #1 & #2 seeds earned the right to rest/sit.... by winning games during the season. LMU won 1 game in conference play, and deserved the difficult path.

Rest one game maybe, but resting while another team is playing its fourth game in four days is ridiculous. If they wanted to continue this format, they should use the Sunday off to give the lower seeded teams a day of rest before the semis.

There's a difficult path...and then there's having to win five games in six days to win a nine-team tournament.

Moot point, as the format next year is much more fair.

4 of the 5 Men's games so far have been upsets, seed-wise... Will that continute tomorrow night with GU vs. LMU and USD vs. SMC?
