Re: WCC Tournament 2022
For those of us left behind in the Portland area while everyone else heads to Las Vegas, in addition to streaming options on the WCC Network, we can record and watch the Pilots on TV too.
Women: UP's Saturday game is on ROOT+ at 1:30, and a win in that game will have them on ROOT at noon on Monday against BYU. (My Portland area Comcast cable lists ROOT+ on 1253 and ROOT on 734)
The Championship game on Tuesday is on ESPNU at 1:00pm.
Men: UP's Friday game is on ROOT at 8pm, and a win in that game will have the Pilots playing Santa Clara on ESPN2 on Saturday at 9:30pm.
Continuing to win, the Pilots will play St. Mary's on Monday at 8:30pm on ESPN2.
The Championship game is at 6pm on Tuesday on ESPN.
Yes, all the women's games except the Championship, and all the men's games on Thursday and Friday are also on BYUtv, but BYUtv does not broadcast in high definition on my cable...a first-world problem for sure.

Re: WCC Tournament 2022
In the opening round games, LMU plays UOP and USD plays PU.
LMU split with UOP, losing in Stockton 68-69, then beating them in LA seven days later, 90-77. LMU is favored by 4.5, with an O/U of 140.5.
USD is by far the strongest team in the last four, winning 7 conference games, which is the total wins for the other three teams combined. They beat PU in Malibu 72-62, and 64-56 at home. USD opened as a 4 point favorite, and teh betting has moved the line to 5.5. The O/U started at 137 and is currently 139.5. I will be rooting for a hard-fought overtime game here.

Re: WCC Tournament 2022
LMU and Pacific played it pretty close, but the Lions ran away near the end and face BYU tomorrow.
Pepperdine also played a hard fought match against USD but, to quote the BYU announcers, haven't quite found a way to win and close out games yet, and USD stayed alive to face us tomorrow. The senior Calcaterra was the leading scorer; he had only 3 pts in the UP home game. I think if the guys can play smart and the 3 point gods favor us like Joe Quintana then I'm confident they'll play another day, though USD is probably looking for some revenge for that 30 point blowout.
Other conference tournament experience (ACC, Big East, etc.) from transfers was brought up during the PU-USD game, so I was curious to see what our own transfers' experience were and...yeah nothing is going to beat Legans and the EWU guys, which is good because they know what it's like to survive and advance.
EWU (Meadows, Robertson, Perry) - conference champions/finals in prev years
UNLV (Wood) - second round
Fordham (Austin)/UTEP (Sjolund)/Georgia Tech (Sjolund)/Tulane (Wood) - first round

I was told the alumni office staff couldn't make it down; conflicts in real life.
There will be a pre-game social before the game Friday night, which usually has an open bar.

That's a better deal than the $12 12oz draft I had in the arena.

Re: WCC Tournament 2022
Pilots vs USD
USD led PU the first half, then actually trailed for a while in the second half. The tide turned with 5 minutes left when Mallette got a bump, and USD got a couple threes and some FTs and went from down 1 to up 8. They kept that lead as the game ended on a last second uncontested layup by PU that changed the O/U result.
USF was led by shooting guard Calcaterra's 20 points. Pilots will need to shut him down, as his season average is less than 9ppg. They have 3 or 4 other guys who score well. But PU shot well from 2P, and might have won had they been able to hit a couple more 3P's (4-13, 31%) and FTs (9-15, 60%). The Pilots are capable of doing much better in those areas. Shooting in an arena can take some adjusting to, so let's hope the guys don't have an issue with that.

Here is a podcast that reviews the WCC season and previews tournament possibilities. The Pilot discussion starts about the 9 minute mark.

The majority of conference tournaments are held in big arenas, so with the exception of the freshmen, I would think all the guys would know what the general feeling is like.

Anyone hanging in the Portland area know of a good bar to catch the game at? Would be fun to find a good atmosphere/people excited about the game and have a few coldies while watching the boys.

Re: WCC Tournament 2022
There's a bar on campus now with large TV's... No idea if they show things like this. It'd be interesting to see away games promoted as a thing there by the school to alumni and other old people. I have no idea as to it's status as I've only been there pre pandemic before a home game.

It's near the end of spring break right now where most of campus is dead and campus dining usually had limited hours, so I'm not sure if it'd be open that late now or Saturday. Maybe if they're still alive by Monday? I do remember they posted a live reaction to the women's championship win from the Pilot House in 2020.

Someone tell the WCC for $2500 I’ll design and code them a scoreboard for the jumbotron that doesn’t look like it was made on an Atari.

With the game about to begin, this is my biggest concern.up7587 wrote:Shooting in an arena can take some adjusting to, so let's hope the guys don't have an issue with that.
Usually, unless you have experience in the Orleans Arena, the lack of background makes for some very poor shooting.
